Handbook of Generalized Convexity and Generalized Monotonicity

Generalized convex functions are the many nonconvex functions which share at least one of the valuable properties of convex functions. Apart from their theoretical interest, they are often more suitable than convex functions to describe real-word problems in disciplines such as economics, engineering, management science, probability theory and in other applied sciences. More recently, generalized monotone maps which are closely related to generalized convex functions have also been studied extensively. The Handbook offers a systematic and thorough exposition of the theory and applications of the various aspects of generalized convexity and generalized monotonicity. It is aimed at the non-expert, for whom it provides a detailed introduction, as well as at the expert who seeks to learn about the latest developments and references in his research area.

Handbook of Evidence-Based Therapies for Children and Adolescents : Bridging Science and Practice

Growing numbers of young people—some 10% to 20% of school-age populations—have mental health problems requiring intervention, and current policy initiatives identify evidence-based therapies as the most effective and relevant forms of treatment. By reviewing evidence-based treatments (EBTs) across a wide spectrum of conditions, the Handbook of Evidence-Based Therapies for Children and Adolescents: Bridging Science and Practice closes the gaps between children’s needs and services as well as those between research, training, and practice, Several EBT options, both proved and promising, are offered for each covered disorder and are bolstered by case examples, tables, and reference lists. Features include chapters on implementation issues such as diversity, family treatment, assessment strategies, and community settings, and step-by-step guidance for the researcher looking to gather empirical support for therapies.

Handbook of employment discrimination research : Rights and realities

This volume contains acollection of original papersbyleadinglegal scholars and social scientists that develop new perspectivesonanti-discriminationlaw, with anemphasison employment discrimination. The volume is introduced by three papers that broadly an-alyze anti-discriminationlaw andits relationshiptoexisting socialscience. we write as lawyer-sociologists attemptingto advance a socio-legalunderstanding of employment discrimination law. We examine the debate amongcom-petingconceptions of the anti-discrimination law which argue that the law has becometoo expansive, is too weak, or is too reliant on litigation. After review in gdoctrinal developments in the law and trends in claiming behavior before the EEOC and the federal courts through the 1990s to present, we apply the concept of the pyramid ofdisputes to discrimination claims to assess the ongoingdebate. Although the analysis demonstrates that there are significant gaps in our knowledge of how employment dis-crimination claims arise and are dealt with, it also suggests that the current system isdramatically under-inclusive of potentialclaimants.
