Yearbook of Morphology 2005
In the Yearbook of Morphology 2005 a number of important theoretical issues are discussed: the role of inflectional paradigms in morphological analysis, the differences between words and affixes, and the adequacy of competing models of word structure. In addition, the role of phonological factors in shaping complex words is discussed.Evidence for particular positions defended in this volume is taken from a wide variety of languages. This volume is of interest to those working in theoretical, descriptive and historical linguistics, morphologists, phonologists, computational linguists, and psycholinguists.
Xenobiotic Metabolic Enzymes Bioactivation and Antioxidant Defense
Xenobiotics are commonly referred to as xenobiotics that humans digest or inhale and are not produced by the body, such as foods, drugs, other chemicals, and air pollutants. Metabolic conversion of xenobiotics to facilitate their removal from the body is catalyzed by activation and detoxification enzymes. These enzymes are essential for bioactivation and detoxification of xenobiotics. Many xenobiotics are non-toxic in nature; however, some of them become cytotoxic or carcinogenic after metabolic conversion. Reactive intermediates or metabolites generated during metabolic conversion are generally electrophilic in nature and are either cations or neutral compounds, including reactive oxygen species and free radicals. Metabolic reactive intermediate-mediated oxidative stress can cause damages to cellular components such as impairment of protein functions, membrane lipid peroxidation, and formation of DNA adduct.
Work, Subjectivity and Learning : Understanding Learning through Working Life
This shift acknowledges a broader set of workplace factors that shape workers’ learning and development. Yet equally, it acknowledges that this learning through engagement is also necessarily shaped by the diverse ways that individuals elect to engage or participate in workplace activities. Central here is the issue of individuals’ subjectivity and how this is shaped by but shapes engagement in work and, therefore, what learning flows from their participation. It is in considering the relations among subjectivity, learning and work that it is possible to advance both the conceptual and procedural bases for understanding learning through and for working life. Moreover, the focus on relations among subjectivity, work and learning represents a point of convergence for diverse disciplinary traditions and practices that are provided by the book’s contributors.
White-Collar crime in the shadow economy : Lack of detection, investigation and conviction compared to social security fraud
Examines the magnitude, causes of, and reactions to white-collar crime, based on the theories and research of those who have uncovered various forms of white-collar crime. It argues that the offenders who are convicted represent only ‘the tip of the iceberg’ of a much greater problem: because white-collar crime is forced to compete with other kinds of financial crime like social security fraud for police resources and so receives less attention and fewer investigations. Gottschalk and Gunnesdal also offer insights into estimation techniques for the shadow economy, in an attempt to comprehend the size of the problem. Holding broad appeal for academics, practitioners in public administration, and government agencies, this innovative study serves as a timely starting point for examining the lack of investigation, detection, and conviction of powerful white-collar criminals.
Wetlands and Natural Resource Management
We have given the organizers of these symposia the opportunity to produce one chapter for these books with the integrated content of their symposium. This has resulted in 25 chapters, of which 13 are included in Volume 190 under the heading “Wetlands and Natural Resource Management”and 12 in Volume 191 under the heading “Wetlands: Functi- ing,Biodiversity Conservation and Restoration”. With these books,we had the aim to summarize the most important recent scientific results in wetland science, their applications in wetland and water resource management and their implications for the development of global, national and regional policies in the perspective of the ever-progressing deterioration of natural wetlands and the major impacts that future climate change will have.

This edited volume contributed by world leaders in this field, also provides psuedo code for effective signatures to prevent vulnerabilities and case studies where the latest exploits are discussed.
Vite matematiche : Protagonisti del’ 900 da Hilbert a Wiles = Mathematical Lives : Twentieth-century protagonists from Hilbert to Wiles
Presenting famous mathematicians alongside others less known to the general public - from Hilbert to Gödel, from Turing to Nash, from De Giorgi to Wiles - the portraits collected in this volume show us characters with a strong personal charisma, with vast cultural interests, passionate about defending the importance of their research, sensitive to beauty, attentive to the social and political problems of their time. The result is a fresco that documents the centrality of mathematics in the culture, not only scientific but also philosophical, artistic and literary, of our time, in a continuous game of exchanges and references, correspondences and suggestions.

Viral transport in plants
The book provides a state of the art overview of the intricate functional virus:host relationships that allow a virus or viroid to move cell-to-cell and systemically through the plant. The book also illustrates the mechanisms by which viruses overcome plant defence responses, such as RNA silencing.
Victim-Offender Mediation with Youth Offenders in Europe: An Overview and Comparison of 15 Countries
This book documents the state of the art on Victim-Offender Mediation with youth offenders in 15 European nations. It provides an up-do date review of current theory and practice and presents a critical discussion of problems and benefits which may help guide future policy decisions and applications. The book informs both those who are interested in evaluating the current state of affairs of Victim-Offender Mediation with youth offenders in Europe, and those who would like to promote Victim-Offender Mediation in their own countries. The common format used in each chapter facilitates comparison across countries. Per country, five areas of investigation are explored and discussed: norms and legislation allowing for the implementation of victim-offender mediation programmes; values and theoretical frameworks of victim-offender mediation; organizational structure of victim-offender mediation services; professional characteristics of mediators; benefits, potential problems, and criticisms of current practice.
Vergleichsweise menschlich? : Ambulante Sanktionen als Alternative zur Freiheitsentziehung aus europäischer Perspektive = Comparatively human?: Outpatient sanctions as an alternative to imprisonment from a European perspective
Ambulatory sanctions are often seen as a humane alternative to deprivation of liberty. The nature of intervention, the perspective of those affected and the expansion of the network of social control are overlooked. The transfer of sanction practices between legal cultures requires minimum human rights standards. In addition, there are no control group studies and, in particular, no comparison with non-intervention. Instead of naively transferring a (supposed) "best practice" it is recommended to shift the focus from "nothing works" to an examination of the possibility that "nothing works".

The book is also illustrated by a unique collection that includes scores of never previously reproduced photographs. US Spacesuits is the most accurate and comprehensive text about the general topic of spacesuits, and US spacesuits in particular, that has ever been produced.
Understanding Network Hacks : Attack and Defense with Python 3
Explains how to see one's own network through the eyes of an attacker, to understand their techniques and effectively protect against them. Through Python code samples the reader learns to code tools on subjects such as password sniffing, ARP poisoning, DNS spoofing, SQL injection, Google harvesting, Bluetooth and Wifi hacking. Furthermore the reader will be introduced to defense methods such as intrusion detection and prevention systems and log file analysis by diving into code. This book addresses interested Python programmers who want to learn about network coding and to administrators, who want to actively check the security of their systems and networks. The content should also be useful for white, gray and black hat hackers, who prefer Python for coding. You neither need deep knowledge on how computer networks are build up nor in programming.
Understanding Models for Learning and Instruction : Essays in Honor of Norbert M. Seel
For more than 25 years, the pioneering research and theories of Norbert Seel have had a profound impact on educational thought in mathematics. In this special tribute, an international panel of researchers present the current state of model-based education: its research, methodology, and technology. Fifteen stimulating, sometimes playful chapters link the multiple ways of constructing knowledge (and domains as diverse as cognitive science, computer science, and philosophy) to the complex real world of skill development; generalize model-based theories into educational settings; and explain how to design and evaluate model-centered learning environments. Extensive reading lists, provocative graphics, and a wealth of cultural touchstones from the Bible to Bob Dylan make Understanding Models for Learning and Instruction an accessible yet thought provoking collection.

Twitter als Basis wissenschaftlicher Studien : Eine Bewertung gängiger Erhebungs- und Analysemethoden der Twitter-Forschung = Twitter as a basis for scientific studies: an evaluation of common survey and analysis methods in Twitter research
Evaluates the scientific usefulness of Twitter by considering several common survey and analysis methods. Twitter has become a popular source for studies, although the short message service is only suitable for research to a limited extent: Limited representativeness, limited data availability and low data quality reduce the scientific benefit. Nevertheless, Twitter is increasingly becoming the focus of science due to its social and media relevance and the mass of freely available data.
Transboundary Floods : Reducing Risks Through Flood Management
Flood damages are increasing as a result of frequent occurrence of large floods in many parts of the world, existing and continuing encroachment of development onto flood plains and aging flood protection structures. Under such circumstances, there is an ongoing search for better ways of protecting human life, land, property and the environment by improved flood management. Many flood management measures have been practiced in various jurisdictions, including living with floods, non-structural measures (e.g., regulations, flood defence by flood forecasting and warning, evacuations, and flood insurance), and structural measures (e.g., land drainage modifications, reservoirs, dykes and polders). Such flood management is difficult in river basins controlled by a single authority, and becomes even more challenging when dealing with transboundary floods, which may originate in one country or jurisdiction and then propagate downstream to another country, or jurisdiction.
