Smart Materials for Ranging Systems

The problem of determining the location of an object, which is usually called ranging, attracts at present much attention in many different areas of applications, among them in ecological and safety devices. Electromagnetic waves along with sound waves are widely used for this purpose. Familiar examples of ranging systems are radar, sonar, GPS positioning, speed meters, etc.. Most are echo-type of devices, generating a wave and interpreting its echo from the object of interest. GPS is a cooperative system, in which the receiver observes timing signals from sources at known locations, and locates itself in reference to them. Passive ranging makes use of waves generated by the object to be located that are picked up by an observer.

Smart Graphics ; 8th International Symposium, SG 2007, Kyoto, Japan, June 25-27, 2007, Proceedings

The core idea behind the Smart Graphics symposia is to bring together - searchers and practitioners from the field of computer graphics, artificial Inteligence, cognitive science, graphic design and the ?nearts. Eacho fthese disciplines contributes to what we mean by the term “smart graphics”: the intelligent p- cess of creating efective, expressive and esthetic graphical presentation. While artists and designers have been creating communicative graphics for centuries, artificial intelligence focuses on automating this process by means of the computer. While computer graphics provides the tools for creating graphical presentations in the ?rst place, the cognitive sciences contribute the rules and models of perception necessary for the design of effective graphics. The exchange of ideas between these four disciplines has led to many exciting and fruitful discussions, and the smart graphics symposia draw their liveliness from a spirit of openminds and the willingness to learn from and share with other disciplines.

Smart glucose- responsive hydogel technology

Accumulating evidence demonstrates that not only sustained elevation of blood glucose levels but also the glucose fluctuation represents key determinants for diabetic complications and mortality. Current closed-loop insulin therapy option is limited to the use of electronics-based systems, although it poses some technical issues with high cost. Here we demonstrate an electronics-free, synthetic boronate gel-based insulin-diffusion-control device technology that can cope with glucose fluctuations and potentially address the electronics-derived issues. The gel was combined with suitable amount of insulin for rats, serving as a subcutaneously implantable, insulin-diffusion active site in a manner dependent on the subcutaneous glucose.

Skin injuries & conservative treatments

Skin is a barrier which protects the whole human body, however it is exposed to many damaging factors. The aim of our study is to describe the structure of the skin and we will focus on the most common causes of skin damage factors from natural sources such as sun exposure, which could harm the skin and there is a correlation in between it and increasing skin cancer. We will also discuss about wounds and burns since they both became a life threatening factors during the war in Syria therefore we will introduce the best and the most recent treatments and technologies including a case report about healing by stem cells, in order to reduce. Malformation of skin like a scar, and more important we will highlight the importance of new devices in early detection of skin cancer and conservative surgery of breast cancer patients. We were also concerned about the lack of knowledge. So we will mention cosmetic creams and procedures. For anti aging since wrinkles is a major factor of depression.

Skin diseases in females

Covers dermatological and related esthetic concerns specific to female patients. Since knowing what’s normal is as important as knowing what’s not, first chapters covers physiological differences in the skin of women and the changes during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. Certain commonly encountered dermatoses are more frequent in females – chronic telogen effluvium, rosacea, perioral dermatitis, pigmented contact (cosmetic) dermatitis, etc., which are explained in a more focused manner. Dermatoses exclusive to females involving the vulva is discussed at length. These include common papulosquamous conditions such as psoriasis, lichen planus, and lichen sclerosus as well as the uncommon but challenging plasma cell vulvitis. Breast dermatoses also are predominantly encountered in women and are described in detail in this book.

Sistemi ACM e imaging diagnostico : Le immagini mediche come matrici attive di connessioni = ACM systems and diagnostic imaging : Medical images as active matrices of connections

The first hypothesis underlying ACM (Active Connections Matrix) systems is that each N-dimensional image can be transformed into a network of interconnected pixels that develops over time through local, deterministic, and iterative operations. The transformed image can display, in a larger dimensional space, morphological and dynamic regularities that, in the original dimensions, would be invisible or could be classified as noise. This hypothesis allows us to explain the second hypothesis underlying ACM systems: each image contains within it the inherent mathematics that produced it. In practice, it is as if each image concealed within it two other invisible images. ACM systems extract them and make them visible. The work also describes possible applications in diagnostic imaging and is therefore aimed at physicists, computer scientists, radiologists, and laboratory technicians who work in image processing.

Singular Stochastic Differential Equations

The authors introduce, in this research monograph on stochastic differential equations, a class of points termed isolated singular points. Stochastic differential equations possessing such points (called singular stochastic differential equations here) arise often in theory and in applications. However, known conditions for the existence and uniqueness of a solution typically fail for such equations. The book concentrates on the study of the existence, the uniqueness, and, what is most important, on the qualitative behaviour of solutions of singular stochastic differential equations. This is done by providing a qualitative classification of isolated singular points, into 48 possible types.
