Manuale di accreditamento delle strutture diabetologiche = Accreditation manual of diabetic facilities

Healthcare quality is not a new issue, but it is often underestimated. The doctor focuses on his relationship with the patient, and is led to believe that technique and technology are sufficient to guarantee effective and efficient performance, regardless of the organizational system. Quality understood as "Total Quality Management" is a way to cross a border, to create knowledge, to break the armor of self-referentiality and that individualistic vision of work learned during university studies and consolidated by professional practice. The path of professional peer accreditation is the tool that the scientific society Associazione Medici Diabetologi has developed and provided to diabetologists to facilitate the understanding of ways of looking at the world of healthcare that are different from those they usually use.

Mammalian Evolutionary Morphology : A Tribute to Frederick S. Szalay

This volume acknowledges and celebrates the contributions of Dr. Frederick S. Szalay to the field of Mammalian Evolutionary Morphology. Professor Szalay has published about 200 articles, four monographs, and six books on this subject. Throughout his career Professor Szalay has been a strong advocate for biologically and evolutionarily meaningful character analysis. In his view, this can be accomplished only through an integrated strategy of functional, adaptational, and historical analysis. Dr. Szalay worked on several different mammalian groups during his career, and the contributions to this volume reflect his broad perspective. Chapters focus on Primates, a group to which Professor Szalay dedicated much of his career. However, other mammalian groups on which he conducted a significant amount of research, such as marsupials and xenarthrans, are also covered in the volume.

Les souffrances psychologiques des malades du cancer : Comment les reconnaître, comment les traiter? = The psychological suffering of cancer patients : How to recognize them, how to treat them?

This book thus proposes, reconnecting with the most clinical and frankly psychodynamic vein, to bear witness to the encounter with the reality of cancerous disease and with all the imagination that it arouses. It is also a tribute to the sick - but just as much to their loved ones and their caregivers - who then engage in these territories of the crash, the unpredictable, where everything leads to think and do.

Les prothèses tricompartimentaires du genou de première intention : Techniques opératoires. Problèmes et solutions = Primary tricompartmental knee replacement : Surgical techniques, problems, and solutions

It seems difficult and presumptuous to want to write a book on total knee replacement. There are many quality works dealing with this subject. The knee prosthesis has, from its origin, particularly in the United States, given rise to considerable studies in all directions: biomechanical, physiological, biological and industrial. Our goal is to offer the youngest a book of simple knowledge without pretension of completeness or prejudice as to long debated subjects (conservation or not of the posterior cruciate ligament, cement or without cement, resurfacing or not of the patella, fixed plate or mobile platform, etc.), and to give practical advice based on our experience. Why limit yourself to first-line tricompartmentals? Because it is the most common solution to the usual degenerative knee problems. In addition, unicompartment and revision prostheses will be the subject of further literature. Everyone knows that to put a knee prosthesis model, and therefore to a system. However, it is important to be able to keep your freedom of analysis in order to maintain your freedom of choice. You have to know how to put on a knee prosthesis without compromise or fanaticism. Convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth than lies. Nietzsche

Lantibiotics as alternative therapeutics

Explores alternative therapeutics, lantibiotics and other novel drugs. This book provides concrete information to readers regarding lantibiotics and various types of antimicrobial peptides with their mode of actions in treating various multidrug resistant organisms. It explains various techniques that are involved in analyzing antimicrobial peptides and their mode of actions. The development of antibiotic resistance has now reached a point of crisis where innovative methods and application of novel compounds and methods are required to prevent the spread of drug resistant infections.

Landscape Pattern Analysis for Assessing Ecosystem Condition

Landscape Pattern Analysis for Assessing Ecosystem Condition presents a new method for assessing spatial pattern in raster land cover maps based on satellite imagery in a way that incorporates multiple pixel resolutions. This is combined with more conventional single-resolution measurements of spatial pattern and simple non-spatial land cover proportions to assess predictability of both surface water quality and ecological integrity within watersheds of the state of Pennsylvania (USA).

La marche de linfirme moteur cérébral enfant et adulte = Gait in children and adults with cerebral palsy

Patients with cerebral palsy (CP) face numerous neuromotor problems related to brain damage, the functional consequences of which, in the early years of life, impact the acquisition of walking. A better understanding of gait and its levels of control, along with refined and quantified clinical analysis in the laboratory, allows for the definition of therapeutic options in collaboration with the patient, their family, and the healthcare team. Managing muscle tone disorders and neuro-orthopedic problems is a daily challenge for patients at all ages. Patients with CP increasingly benefit from new drug therapies, regular adjustments of walking aids and orthotics, and specific rehabilitation, sometimes combined with surgical procedures, whether orthopedic or neurological. This book reviews the evolution of knowledge and practices.

La disprassia in età evolutiva : Criteri di valutazione ed intervento = Dyspraxia in developmental age : Evaluation criteria and intervention

As clinical and rehabilitation practice shows, children with dyspraxia are unable to plan and organize an action plan; they cannot control what they are doing during an action; therefore, they cannot do something, but we could also admit that they cannot yet do something; that is, they have not yet learned to perform functions. Functions and actions, however, can be learned and performed with the help of targeted exercises performed consistently. It is, however, essential to recognize the difficulties children with dyspraxia face when faced with new, unusual tasks. The author proposes an assessment and intervention model that takes into account etiological and neuropsychological hypotheses, emphasizing the need to proceed with an analysis on multiple levels: perceptual, motor, and representational. Particular importance is given to early diagnosis and intervention to define and implement appropriate treatment plans. The work concludes with the analysis and description of clinical cases related to some specific forms of dyspraxia: verbal dyspraxia and dysgraphia.

Kinase Drug Discovery : Modern Approaches

Kinase inhibition remains an area of significant interest, and growing importance, across academia and the pharmaceutical industry. There are now many marketed drugs that target kinases and a significant number of compounds are currently in various stages of clinical development. This book is a forward-looking analysis of a number of key areas for kinase inhibition in the coming years and builds on the first volume. This includes topics such as screening approaches to target kinases along with different modes of inhibition such as allosteric and covalent. Novel approaches such as macrocyclisation are considered along with how the properties of kinase inhibitors have evolved, including the potential for brain penetration. Recent areas of great importance also covered include cutting edge molecular modelling approaches and the importance of kinase mutations.
