Acute heart failure is one of the oldest described medical conditions. However, although its clinical symptomatology is fairly obvious and known to everyone: dyspnea, liver pain, crackles on auscultation, the epidemiology has only been explored for very recent years. In all of the cardiology and resuscitation books of the past 40 years, acute heart failure has been considered a catch-all ranging from acute simple lung edema in hypertensive crisis to cardiogenic shock following heart attack. myocardium. It was all called "acute heart failure." This book is based on the recent Recommendations of the European Society of Cardiology and the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine which advocate the designation "Acute heart failure syndrome" in which the decompensation of heart failure chronic, hypertensive surge, cardiogenic shock, right heart failure, and high output heart failure are separate entities.

L’insuffisance rénale aiguë = Acute renal failure
The aim of this book is to make current data from the experimental and clinical literature accessible to readers. More than a thousand articles are published each year on the theme and the authors aim to synthesize this information. These data relate in particular to the identification of early markers of renal dysfunction without which screening, recognition of the main pathophysiological determinants and prevention remain uncertain. This book focuses attention on clinical situations characterized by the renal impact of the main dysfunctions of vital functions, the prognosis of which is worsened by the occurrence of this renal failure. The following will be treated in particular: the renal consequences of oxidative stress, the renal consequences of respiratory dysfunction, cardiac dysfunction, hepatic dysfunction, alterations in hemostasis, septic shock and hemorrhagic shock. Characteristics Finite Element Methods in Computational Fluid Dynamics
This book details a systematic characteristics-based finite element procedure to investigate incompressible, free-surface and compressible flows. The fluid dynamics equations are derived from basic thermo-mechanical principles and the multi-dimensional and infinite-directional upstream procedure is developed by combining a finite element discretization of a characteristics-bias system with an implicit Runge-Kutta time integration. For the computational solution of the Euler and Navier Stokes equations, the procedure relies on the mathematics and physics of multi-dimensional characteristics. As a result, the procedure crisply captures contact discontinuities, normal as well as oblique shocks, and generates essentially non-oscillatory solutions for incompressible, subsonic, transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic inviscid and viscous flows.
