New Trends and Technologies in Computer-Aided Learning for Computer-Aided Design ; IFIP International Working Conference: EduTech 2005, Perth, Australia, October 20-21, 2005
Computation and communication technologies underpin work and development in many different areas. Among them, Computer-Aided Design of electronic systems and E-Learning technologies are two areas which are different but share many concerns. The design of CAD and E-Learning systems already touches on a number of parallels, such as system interoperability, user interfaces, standardization, EML-based formats, reusability aspects (of content or designs), and intellectual property rights. Furthermore, the teaching of Design Automation tools and methods is particularly amenable to a distant or blended learning setting, and implies the interconnection of typical CAD tools, such as simulators or synthesis tools, with e-learning tools. There are many other aspects in which synergy can be found when using E-Learning technology for teaching and learning technology. This workshop, sponsored by IFIP WG 10.5 Design and Engineering of Electronic Systems in cooperation with IFIP WG 3.6 Distance Education, will explore the interrelationship between these two subjects, where Computer-Aided Design meets Computer-Aided Learning. New Trends and Technologies in Computer-Aided Learning for Computer-Aided Design documents recent approaches and results presented at the EduTech 2005 Workshop, which was held in October 2005 in Perth, Australia and sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). The topics chosen for this working conference are very timely: learning environments, tools and applications for education, education technologies and trends, and teaching in the hardware design area.

As applications of information security technologies become pervasive, issues pertaining to their deployment and operation are becoming increasingly important. ISPEC is intended to be an annual conference that brings together researchers and practitioners to provide a con?uence of new information se- rity technologies, their applications and their integration with IT systems in various vertical sectors. The Program Committee consisted of leading experts in the areas of information security, information systems, and domain experts in applications of IT in vertical business segments. The topics of the conference covered security applications and case studies, access control, network security, data security, secure architectures, and cryp- graphic techniques. Emphasis was placed on the application of security research to meet practical user requirements, both in the paper selection process and in the invited speeches. Acceptance into the conference proceedings was very competitive. The Call for Papers attracted more than 120 submissions, out of which the Program Committee selected only 35 papers for inclusion in the proceedings.

Special functions are pervasive in all fields of science and industry. The most well-known application areas are in physics, engineering, chemistry, computer science and statistics. Because of their importance, several books and websites (see for instance http: functions.wolfram.com) and a large collection of papers have been devoted to these functions. Of the standard work on the subject, namely the Handbook of Mathematical Functions with formulas, graphs and mathematical tables edited by Milton Abramowitz and Irene Stegun, the American National Institute of Standards claims to have sold over 700 000 copies!

The 2005 BISC International Special Event-BISCSE’05 " FORGING THE FRONTIERS" was held in the University of California, Berkeley, “WHERE FUZZY LOGIC BEGAN, from November 3 – 6, 2005. The successful applications of fuzzy logic and it’s rapid growth suggest that the impact of fuzzy logic will be felt increasingly in coming years. Fuzzy logic is likely to play an especially important role in science and engineering, but eventually its influence may extend much farther. In many ways, fuzzy logic represents a significant paradigm shift in the aims of computing - a shift which reflects the fact that the human mind, unlike present day computers, possesses a remarkable ability to store and process information which is pervasively imprecise, uncertain and lacking in categoricity.
Field-Based Coordination for Pervasive Multiagent Systems
Software systems involve autonomous and distributed software components that have to execute and interact in open and dynamic environments, such as in pervasive, autonomous, and mobile applications. The requirements with respect to dynamics, openness, scalability, and decentralization call for new approaches to software design and development, capable of supporting spontaneous configuration, tolerating partial failures, or arranging adaptive reorganization of the whole system.
Existence: Semantics and Syntax
This collection is an important contribution to the semantic and syntactic analysis of the expression of existence. The volume focuses on the three main linguistic constructions expressing existence: copular clauses, existential sentences, and (in)definiteness. The papers analyze the interaction between the basic notion of existence and pervasive phenomena of natural language, such as quantification and presupposition. The contributions represent state of the art research on theoretical and comparative issues related to the expression of existence, and make extensive reference to the semantic and syntactic facts of English and of various other languages. The richness of new data and the juxtaposition of different theoretical stances bring a number of new questions into focus.
