Detail how and why the training of dentists was transformed by science, technology, and individual educators. The book focuses on the unique aspects of Western’s dental program and compares it with the programs offered at nine other Canadian schools.
Topics in Galois Fields
Provides a self-contained presentation of the foundations of finite fields, including a detailed treatment of their algebraic closures. It also covers important advanced topics which are not yet found in textbooks: the primitive normal basis theorem, the existence of primitive elements in affine hyperplanes, and the Niederreiter method for factoring polynomials over finite fields. We give streamlined and/or clearer proofs for many fundamental results and treat some classical material in an innovative manner. In particular, we emphasize the interplay between arithmetical and structural results, and we introduce Berlekamp algebras in a novel way which provides a deeper understanding of Berlekamp's celebrated factorization algorithm.
Tigri e Teoremi : Scrivere teatro e scienza = Tigers and Theorems : Writing theater and science
From science according to Popper and Toulmin to theater according to Morteo and Brecht, a path is built between the two disciplines that leads to an original intertwining between the two fields: the emotion that a theatrical performance provokes in us can be compared to the pleasure that a theorem proved flawlessly. The purpose of the book is to teach how to write "Theater and Science". Seeing the curtain open in front of one's own scientific play, written with rigor after having researched and analyzed and compared the sources. The secret of this writing lies in two directives that work well both in science and in theater: e.

Technology-oriented customer touchpoints in context of services in retailing : A differentiated analysis on social presence and privacy calculus
Addresses the topic of technology use along different touchpoints in context of different services in retailing, both in offline and online retail, with a total of eight essays. In particular, the interaction of technology use and the frontline employee is also considered and a special focus is placed on aspects of data disclosure by customers. In this context, the essays concentrate in varying degrees on the social interaction between customer, frontline employee and a service-technology, as well as on the balancing of benefits and risks for the customer in a possible disclosure of personal information.
Tax and Corporate Governance
The interaction of tax and corporate governance forms an emerging issue both in business and administrative practice and in academic research. International organisations (OECD, EC) have begun to explore the effects corporate governance rules exert on the tax policy of large business; governments try to employ corporate and securities law as a means to further their fiscal interest. Academic research shows that well-known principal-agent and capital market problems are strongly influenced by tax considerations. Against this background, this volume is the first to present a fully-fledged overview of the interdependence of tax and corporate governance. Not only the basic political, legal and economic questions but also major topics like income measurement, shareholding structures, corporate social responsibility and tax shelter disclosure are covered extensively by leading authors.
System Signatures and their Applications in Engineering Reliability
Provides guidance on how reliability problems might be structured, modeled and solved. Over the past ten years the broad applicability of system signatures has become apparent and the tool’s utility in coherent systems and communications networks firmly established. The book compared actual system lifetimes where the tool has been and has not been used. These comparisons—which have been done over the years—demonstrate the practical, feasible and fruitful use of the tool in building reliable systems. Finally, new results and future directions for system signatures are also explored.
