Quasi-Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission ; Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Quasi-Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission Nizhny, Novgorod, Russia 17 - 20 February 2004
Between February 17 and 20, 2004, approximately fifty scientists from ten countries came together at the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP), Nizhny Novgorod, Russia to participate in a NATO sponsored Advanced Research Workshop whose appellation is re flected in the title of this volume, namely Quasi Optical Control of Intense Microwave Transmission. The fashionable label “quasi optical ” has come into use in recent decades to denote structures whose characteristic dimensions exceed (sometimes by large factors) the free space radiation wavelength. Such structures were and are developed to replace the traditional single eigenmode ones in situations when high frequenc ies (short wavelengths) are combined with high powers, a combination that could otherwise lead to RF breakdown and high Ohmic wall heating rates. Treatments of guided wave propagation in oversized structures is aimed at pr eserving the propagating field coherence and thus to provide efficient transmission of RF power to remote destinations such as antennas, microwave ovens, plasma chemical reactors, nuclear fusion machines, and the like.
Proceedings of the International Conference on Social Modeling and Simulation, plus Econophysics Colloquium 2014
Cutting edge scientific researches on various social phenomena are reviewed. Parallel Imports of Pharmaceuticals : Evidence from Scandinavia and Policy Proposals for Switzerland
Parallel trade occurs if international price differences for identical products are high and a policy of regional or international exhaustion of the respective property right has been implemented in the high price country. The work by C. Poget analyses how parallel imports of pharmaceuticals are affecting end consumer prices and drug expenditures in three Scandinavian countries, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Based on his observations he derives proposals for policy reforms in EU member countries and Switzerland.

Parallel and Distributed Processing and Applications ; 2nd International Symposium, ISPA 2004, Hong Kong, China, December 13-15, 2004, Proceedings
Welcome to the proceedings of the 2nd International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing and Applications (ISPA2004) which was held in Hong Kong, China, 13–15 December, 2004. With the advance of computer networks and hardware technology, parallel and distributed processing has become a key technology which plays an imp- tant part in determining future research and development activities in many academic and industrial branches. It provides a means to solve computati- ally intensive problems by improving processing speed. It is also the only - able approach to building highly reliable and inherently distributed applications. ISPA2004 provided a forum for scientists and engineers in academia and indsttry to exchange and discuss their experiences, new ideas, research results, and applications about all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. There was a very large number of paper submissions (361) from 26 countries and regions, including not only Asia and the Pacific, but also Europe and North America. All submissions were reviewed by at least three program or technical committee members or external reviewers. It was extremely di?cult to select the presentations for the conference because there were so many excellent and interesting submissions.
Parallel and distributed processing and applications Vol.4330 ; 4th International Symposium, ISPA 2006, Sorrento, Italy, December 4-6, 2006, Proceedings
The accepted papers cover a wide range of exciting topics including architectures, languages, algorithms, software, networking and applications. The conference continues to grow and this year a record total of 277 ma- scripts were submitted for consideration by the Program Committee. Fromthese submissions the Program Committee selected only 79 regular papers in the p- gram, which re?ects the acceptance rate as 28%. An additional 10 workshops complemented the outstanding paper sessions. The submission and review process worked as follows. Each submission was assigned to at least three Program Committee members for review.
Parallel Algorithms and Cluster Computing ; Implementations, Algorithms and Applications
Presents major advances in high performance computing as well as major advances due to high performance computing. It contains a collection of papers in which results achieved in the collaboration of scientists from computer science, mathematics, physics, and mechanical engineering are presented. From the science problems to the mathematical algorithms and on to the effective implementation of these algorithms on massively parallel and cluster computers we present state-of-the-art methods and technology as well as exemplary results in these fields. This book shows that problems which seem superficially distinct become intimately connected on a computational level.
Overcoming Insomnia
Nowadays, a high percentage of the population in modern society suffers from various kinds of sleep disturbances, due to the impact of increased physiological and socio-cultural stress factors. One of the most common sleep complaints, which the human being has suffered from since ancient times, is insomnia. Although its literal meaning is a total lack of sleep, in clinical and practical terms insomnia has come to refer to a difficulty in initiating and/or maintaining sleep, or non-restorative, non-refreshing sleep. In a survey conducted in the general population of different countries, the prevalence of insomnia was estimated to be about one third of the adult population.
Optimizing HPC Applications with Intel® Cluster Tools : Hunting Petaflops
Optimizing HPC Applications with Intel® Cluster Tools takes the reader on a tour of the fast-growing area of high performance computing and the optimization of hybrid programs. These programs typically combine distributed memory and shared memory programming models and use the Message Passing Interface (MPI) and OpenMP for multi-threading to achieve the ultimate goal of high performance at low power consumption on enterprise-class workstations and compute clusters. The book focuses on optimization for clusters consisting of the Intel® Xeon processor, but the optimization methodologies also apply to the Intel® Xeon Phi™ coprocessor and heterogeneous clusters mixing both architectures.
