The Innovation Game : A New Approach to Innovation Management and R&D

Management and management science mainly treat RandD and innovations as costs or budgets to be managed, an approach that is in stark contrast to their overwhelming importance. This and the very fact that RandD and innovation success is a by necessity a-priori unknown and thus uncertain ex-post definition is not at all being respected properly up to now.In The Innovation Game La Corre and Mishchke consider RandD and innovation as an inherently risky investment which should be profitable, at least on average. Applying a statistical filter model, the authors are able to describe the RandD- and the innovation-process in great detail, almost like a production process. As a metaphor, the book tries to describe it like the control laws of the "distillery for inno-success knowledge"

The Innermost Kernel : Depth Psychology and Quantum Physics. Wolfgang Pauli's Dialogue with C.G. Jung

"The Innermost Kernel" recounts the physicist and Nobel Laureate Wolfgang Pauli and his interest in Jungian psychology, philosophy and western world-view. It is also an exploration of the intellectual setting and context of Pauli's thinking, which has its starting point in the cultural and intellectual climate of fin-de-siècle Europe. As a contribution to the general history of quantum physics this study has a special focus on the psychological and philosophical issues discussed by physicists belonging to the Copenhagen school. The work is mainly based on the correspondence of the principle characters and explores some of the central issues discussed there, as for instance the subject-object relation, complementarity, the relation of conscious and unconscious, the process underlying concept-formation, the psychology of scientific discovery, the symbolic world of alchemy, the theories of archetypes and of synchronicity. Ultimately this book is about a remarkable scientist searching for a new understanding of the interrelatedness of man and world.

The book collects many long reviews on IMF determinations in the Galaxy, in galaxies, and in the Early Universe as well as deep implications of the IMF on star formation theories and on the physical conditions of the gas before and after star formation. It provides basic information needed for the coverage of these important quantities in graduate courses of Stellar Evolution, Star Formation, Interstellar Medium, Galactic Dynamics, Formation and Evolution of Galaxies. The book covers all aspects of the current researches in this field, as testified by the large number of contributing scientists.

The Inhuman Condition : Looking for Difference after Levinas and Heidegger

At the origin of this volume, a simple question: what to make of that surprisingly monotonous series of statements produced by our societies and our philosophers that all converge in one theme - the importance of difference,To clarify the meaning of the difference at stake here, we have tried to rephrase it in terms of the two major and mutually competing paradigms provided by the history of phenomenology only to find both of them equally unable to accommodate this difference without violence. The result? An account of difference that is neither ontological nor ethical, but 'mè-ontological', and that can help us understand some of the problems our societies have come to face (racism, sexism, multiculturalism, pluralism). And, in the wake of this, an unexpected defence of what is at stake in postmodernism and in the question it has refused to take lightly: who are we.

The Influence of National Competition Policy on the International Competitiveness of Nations : A Contribution to the Debate on International Competition Rules

Two fields of economic research in competition policy have gained in importance in times of economic globalization. Firstly, globalization has resurrected the debate whether there is a need for international competition rules against private anticompetitive practices and how these rules could be implemented in the best way. Secondly, the concept of the international competitiveness of nations has become a significant issue for all open economies. The discussion of both themes directs the attention to a specific interface of these two issues. The implementation of international competition rules would limit or even eliminate national competition policy. The matter in question is to what extent national competition policy has to be regarded as a factor of international competitiveness so that national antitrust policy should be given priority over international antitrust rules.

The Indigenous Identity of the South Saami : Historical and Political Perspectives on a Minority within a Minority

This book is a novel contribution in two ways: It is a multi-disciplinary examination of the indigenous South Saami people in Fennoscandia, a social and cultural group that often is overlooked as it is a minority within the Saami minority. Based on both historical material such as archaeological evidence. This book highlight the culture and living conditions of this indigenous group, mapping the negotiations of different identities through the interaction of Saami and non-Saami people through the ages. By illuminating this under-researched field, the volume also enriches the more general debate on global indigenous history, and sheds light on the construction of a Scandinavian identity and the limits of the welfare state and the myth of heterogeneity and equality.

The Inclusion of Other Women : Breaking the Silence through Dialogic Learning

Recognizes a reality, our reality, that of the “other women”. Why are we the “other women”? Because we are women who, given the fact that we have not had the chance to obtain an academic education, were silenced and have remained outside of the spaces for public debate about women. This exclusion is worse if we are immigrants or belong to an ethnic minority. Those of us who are housewives, domestic workers or factory workers, because we do not have academic degrees, do not have spaces in which our voices can be heard, where we can say what we want. At times women whose voices are heard, because they have been able to go to university or have been leaders in the feminist movement, speak for all of the other women who have not been able to get a formal education, without asking us what it is we really want or think.

The Improvement of Technology Transfer : An Analysis of Practices between Graz University of Technology and Styrian Companies

DHe has done a remarkable work in examining technology transfer between Graz University of Technology and Styrian companies. As the author shows, the results presented in this book are not only valid for the specific setting in Styria, one of nine states of Austria, but also for other regions dealing with this specific topic. He based his results on detailed empirical examinations which allowed the introduction of target groups of university researchers and companies defined by a set of characteristics. Thus the work enables parties involved in technology transfer to act according to the specific needs of the participants. Formerly, this knowledge was available at best implicitly, i.e. experienced university researchers or managers used to deal with each other thus knowing well the others’ expectations. Inexperienced fellows had to build up this knowledge gradually.

The impact of the size of the capital on the performance indicators of traditional private bank

The financial performance of banks is affected by many variables, including the size of the capital. The size of the capital was studied for each of the Bank of Jordan, the Bank of France, the Bank of Qatar and the Bank of Trade and Finance, and the impact of that size on the return on total assets, the return on ownership and the liquidity ratio. And standard analysis was used to show that relationship, as the ARDL-J. J . methodology was followed Optimal regression models were developed and the results showed that there was no relationship between the size of capital and the rate of return on assets, while for the relationship between the size of capital and the rate of return on equity, the results showed that there was no relationship between them except in some cases. As for the liquidity index, there is also no connection between it and the size of the capital, except for the Bank of France, which showed the existence of this relationship.
