Networked Embedded Sensing and Control ; Workshop NESC'05 : University of Notre Dame, USA, October 2005 Proceedings

Recent technological developments in sensing, communications, control and computation have created an emerging class of complex systems hereon called networked embedded systems. These systems can be roughly described as collections of spatially distributed sensors, actuators and controllers whose behaviour is coordinated through wired or wireless communication links. This integration between different technologies and scientific domains presents new and challenging fundamental problems underlying the theoretical foundations for this class of systems. This workshop aims at bringing together researchers working of different aspects of networked embedded systems in order to exchange research experiences and to identify the main scientific challenges in this exciting new area.

Model-Driven Software Development

Abstraction is the most basic principle of software engineering. Abstractions are provided by models. Modeling and model transformation constitute the core of model-driven development. Models can be refined and finally be transformed into a technical implementation, i.e., a software system. The aim of this book is to give an overview of the state of the art in model-driven software development. Achievements are considered from a conceptual point of view in the first part, while the second part describes technical advances and infrastructures. Finally, the third part summarizes experiences gained in actual projects employing model-driven development. Beydeda, Book and Gruhn put together the results from leading researchers in this area, both from industry and academia. The result is a collection of papers which gives both researchers and graduate students a comprehensive overview of current research issues and industrial forefront practice, as promoted by OMG’s MDA initiative.

Model-Driven Architecture - Foundations and Applications ; 2nd European Conference, ECMDA-FA 2006, Bilbao, Spain, July 10-13, 2006, Proceedings

The goal of the European Conference on Model-Driven Architecture — Foundations and Applications (ECMDA-FA) is to bring together industry and academia to tackle the problems in model-driven development. This volume includes 18 foundation papers and 12 application papers, which is a fine balance between both worlds. ECMDA-FA 2006 also hosted six workshops on both theoretical and practical aspects of MDA. Furthermore, the keynote speakers, David Frankel and Bran Selic, from some of the world’s largest IT companies proved that industry is very much involved in MDA. This second ECMDA-FA conference is the result of the work of the authors who submitted a total of 78 papers, the Program Committee members who took the effort to review the papers, the people organizing the workshops, and of course the Steering Committee. All in all, several hundreds of people have worked hard to make this conference a success.

Middleware 2005 ; ACM/IFIP/USENIX 6th International Middleware Conference, Grenoble, France, November 28 - December 2, 2005, Proceedings

Today, middleware is a key part of almost any application. Gone are the days when middleware was only used in the IT industry for high-end applications. Rather than middleware being part of the IT world, today IT applications r- resent only one aspect of middleware. With the increase in distribution, network capacity, and widespread deployment of computing devices (in homes, auto- biles, mobile phones, etc.), middleware has surpassed the importance of operating systems as the platform where application development and deployment take place. This makes middleware very exciting as a research area but also a very challenging one since it encompasses many different concepts and techniques from a wide varietyof ?elds: networking, distributed systems, softwareengine- ing, performance analysis, computer architecture, and data management. Middleware 2005 in Grenoble, France, was the 6th edition of an increasingly successfulconference. The scope of the conference has been slowly widening with every edition to accommodate new ?elds and applications.
