Writing Manuals for the Masses : The Rise of the Literary Advice Industry from Quill to Keyboard
This collection of essays examines the literary advice industry since its emergence in Anglo-American literary culture in the mid-nineteenth century within the context of the professionalization of the literary field and the continued debate on creative writing as art and craft. Often dismissed as commercial and stereotypical by authors and specialists alike, literary advice has nonetheless remained a flourishing business, embodying the unquestioned values of a literary system, but also functioning as a sign of a literary system in transition. Exploring the rise of new online amateur writing cultures in the twenty-first century, this collection of essays considers how literary advice proliferates globally, leading to new forms and genres.

Transformations and Projections in Computer Graphics
Transformations and projections are used extensively in Computer Graphics, a field which is now a part of everyone’s lives via feature films, advertisements in the media, the screens of PDAs, mobile phones, and other vehicles and outlets. Transformations and Projections in Computer Graphics provides a thorough background in these two important topics in graphics. The book introduces perspective in an original way and discusses the mathematics of perspective in detail, yet in an accessible way. It also treats nonlinear projections in depth, including the popular fisheye, panorama, and map projections used by many professionals to enhance digital images. Only a basic knowledge of linear algebra, vectors, and matrices is required of readers, as key ideas are introduced slowly, examined and illustrated by figures and examples, and enforced through solved exercises.
Three-Dimensional Television : Capture, Transmission, Display
3DTV require the integration of a diversity of key technologies from computing to graphics, imaging to display, and signal processing to communications. The scope of this book reflects this diversity: different chapters deal with different stages of an end-to-end 3DTV system such as capture, representation, coding, transmission, and display. Both autostereoscopic techniques which eliminate the need for special glasses and allow viewer movement, and holographic approaches which have the potential to provide the truest three-dimensional images, are covered. Some chapters discuss current research trends in 3DTV technology, while others address underlying topics.
The STEREO Mission
The STEREO mission uses twin heliospheric orbiters to track solar disturbances from their initiation to 1 AU. This book documents the mission, its objectives, the spacecraft that execute it and the instruments that provide the measurements, both remote sensing and in situ. This mission promises to unlock many of the mysteries of how the Sun produces what has become to be known as space weather.

The Pathologisation of Homosexuality in Fascist Italy : The Case of 'G'
The book highlights how the dictatorship operated in a low-key, shadowy and undetectable manner, bending pre-existing legislation. Its brutality was - and still is - difficult to prove. It also emphasises the ways in which existing stereotypes on homosexuality were reinforced by the regime propaganda in support of its so-called moralising campaign and how families, the police and the medical professionals joined forces in implementing this form of repression.

Stereochemistry - Workbook : 191 Problems and Solutions
Siebert "Stereochemistry Workbook." In it are 191 graduated problems, along with succinct and clear solutions. One has to know a little stereochemical lore to begin with, for instance the priority rules of the CIP system. But otherwise everything is taught, in exemplary fashion, just through the progression of questions and answers. Complexities of naming coordination compounds, and dealing with chirality planes and axes are not , the book is decorated with fascinating short stories of pharmaceutical design and utility.

Smart Graphics ; 8th International Symposium, SG 2007, Kyoto, Japan, June 25-27, 2007, Proceedings
The core idea behind the Smart Graphics symposia is to bring together - searchers and practitioners from the field of computer graphics, artificial Inteligence, cognitive science, graphic design and the ?nearts. Eacho fthese disciplines contributes to what we mean by the term “smart graphics”: the intelligent p- cess of creating efective, expressive and esthetic graphical presentation. While artists and designers have been creating communicative graphics for centuries, artificial intelligence focuses on automating this process by means of the computer. While computer graphics provides the tools for creating graphical presentations in the ?rst place, the cognitive sciences contribute the rules and models of perception necessary for the design of effective graphics. The exchange of ideas between these four disciplines has led to many exciting and fruitful discussions, and the smart graphics symposia draw their liveliness from a spirit of openminds and the willingness to learn from and share with other disciplines.
Sexual Partnering, Sexual Practices, and Health
Sexual risk behaviors have inspired profound ideas and effective teamwork. But as the early history of AIDS demonstrates, when sexual practice is part of the equation, the same bold thinkers may be stymied, or just silent. Safe sex and monogamy have been proposed as answers to a gamut of social problems, but there is frequently little consensus on what these terms mean. Sexual Partnering, Sexual Practices, and Health replaces myth and stereotype with meticulously documented findings on real people and their behaviors in their social, environmental, and individual contexts. Author Sana Loue examines the range of partnerships not only in the U.S. but also Europe and the developing world, focusing on both consenting relationships and exploitative sexual interactions.
Robot Vision ; 2nd International Workshop, RobVis 2008, Auckland, New Zealand, February 18-20, 2008. Proceedings
obot vision (or, more general, robotics) is a fast-growing discipline, already taught as a dedicated teaching program at university level. The term “robot vision” addresses any autonomous behavior of a technical system supported by visual sensoric information. While robot vision focusses on the vision process, visual robotics is more directed toward control and automatization. In practice, however, both fields strongly interact
Radicals in Synthesis I : Methods and Mechanisms
Topics in Current Chemistry series highlights the importance of this rapidly growing area. The first volume, reviewed here, deals with development of new methods and the physical organic underpinnings of radical methodology, while the second volume addresses the applications of these methods in complex molecule synthesis. Although such a division is totally arbitrary, it provides a convenient platform to categorize this otherwise diverse area. ...A highly readable account of the generation and applications of alkene radical cations by heterolysis of ß-substituted radicals. The authors provide a detailed account of the methods of generation, kinetic and mechanistic aspects, and the eventual fate of these intermediates generated from diverse sources.
Primary Optic Nerve Sheath Meningioma
Optic nerve sheath meningioma (ONSM) is a rare tumour. Cases are usually separated into primary ONSM, which arises either intraorbitally or, less commonly, intracanalicularly, and secondary ONSM, which arises intracranially and subsequently invades the optic canal and orbit. This is the first book to cover all important aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of primary ONSM. After a general introduction, individual chapters discuss the clinical presentation, clinical examination and diagnosis, imaging, and histology. Treatment options are then addressed in detail, with special emphasis on external beam radiation therapy, and in particular stereotactic fractionated radiation therapy. The latter has recently produced consistently good results and is now considered the emerging treatment of choice for the vast majority of patients with primary ONSM.
