Landslide risk assessment
Over the past decade there has been a gradual shift away from simply relying on engineering solutions to individual landslide problems, to the use of a variety of strategies to manage the problems over a broad area. Such alternative strategies include the use of building codes, land use planning controls, preventing water leakage, early warning systems and insurance schemes. This book addresses these developments and provides a multidisciplinary perspective on landslide management.
Composite structures of steel and concrete : Beams, slabs, columns and frames for buildings
Provides an introduction to the theory and design of composite structures of steel and concrete. Material applicable to both buildings and bridges is included, with more detailed information relating to structures for buildings. Throughout, the design methods are illustrated by calculations in accordance with the Eurocode for composite structures, EN 1994, Part 1-1, 'General rules and rules for buildings' and Part 1-2, 'Structural fire design', and their cross-references to ENs 1990 to 1993.
Civil engineering structures according to the Eurocodes : Inspection and maintenance
This standard assumes that the structure, after completion, is used as intended in the project and subject to planned inspection and maintenance to meet the expected project lifetime and to detect any unforeseen weakness or behavior" (EN 13670 4.1)An important decision factor in the design of new structures and repairs to existing structures is the lifetime or expected service life. This concept, which is common for civil engineering works, has been extended to all engineering and building works by applying the European Structural Design Codes.
CEB-FIP Model code 1990 : Design code
This document is a comprehensive design code for concrete. It is the result of a comprehensive revision to the original model code of 1978, which was produced jointly by the Comite Euro-International du Beton (CEB) and the Federation Internationale de la Precontrainte (FIP). Model Code 1990 has more detailed guidelines and explanations than national codes and can be used as a basis for them. It has already influenced the codification work that is being carried out both nationally and internationally and will continue to do so. With the publication of Eurocode 2: Part 1 as a draft pre-standard, this document is a useful reference during the consultative period before Eurocode 2 becomes a European standard. It may be of use to anyone involved in codification work on concrete.
Applied geotechnics for construction projects ; Vol. 3 : Behavior and Design of Project Foundations and Eurocode Validation
Applied Geotechnics for Construction Projects 3 first presents the basic theoretical principles and rules governing the designing and validation of foundations; shallow, semi-deep and deep, then presents real foundation projects with a detailed comparison of the approaches and methods of calculating foundations in relation to the reference systems and rules in force, closely compared to and validated by the Eurocodes. The third chapter presents examples of foundation projects, covering high-side building rafts, strip footings, piles and embankments, enriched by an unprecedented level of experience in the field of foundations for civil and industrial construction projects.
An introduction to cable roof structures ; 2nd ed.
Provides structural engineers with a concise introduction to the architectural, structural and technological aspects of cable roofs, and supplies sufficient information for engineers to carry out their own designs. The improved methods for generating wind and earthquake histories have been included as the trend in modern design codes seem increasingly to require that dynamic response of other forms of non-linear structures such as guyed masts is considered at the design stage.
Advanced Steel Design of Structures
Examines the design principles of steel members under special loads and covers special geometric forms and conditions not typically presented in standard design books. It explains advanced concepts in a simple manner using numerous illustrative examples and MATLAB® codes.
Market segmentation analysis : Understanding it, doing it, and making It useful
Offers something for everyone working with market segmentation: practical guidance for users of market segmentation solutions; organisational guidance on implementation issues; guidance for market researchers in charge of collecting suitable data; and guidance for data analysts with respect to the technical and statistical aspects of market segmentation analysis. Even market segmentation experts will find something new, including a vast array of useful visualisation techniques that make interpretation of market segments and selection of target segments easier. The book talks the reader through every single step, every single potential pitfall, and every single decision that needs to be made to ensure market segmentation analysis is conducted as well as possible. All calculations are accompanied not only with a detailed explanation, but also with R code that allows readers to replicate any aspect of what is being covered in the book using R, the open-source environment for statistical computing and graphics.
