Theory and Applications of Satisfiability Testing ; Vol. 3569 ; 8th International Conference, SAT 2005, St Andrews, Scotland, June 19-23, 2005, Proceedings
SAT is the classic problem of determining whether or not a propositional formula has a satisfying truth assignment. It was the first problem shown by Cook to be NP-complete. Despite its seemingly specialized nature, satisfiability testing has proved to extremely useful in a wide range of different disciplines, both from a practical as well as from a theoretical point of view. For example, work on SAT continues to provide insight into various fundamental problems in computation, and SAT solving technology has advanced to the point where it has become the most effective way of solving a number of practical problems. The SAT series of conferences are multidisciplinary conferences intended to bring together researchers from various disciplines who are interested in SAT. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: proof systems and proof c- plexity; search algorithms and heuristics; analysis of algorithms; theories beyond the propositional; hard instances and random formulae; problem encodings; - dustrial applications; solvers and other tools.
Theoretical Knowledge
In the book Theoretical Knowledge, an original conception of a structure and dynamics of scientific knowledge is proposed. A detailed analysis of the foundations of science allowed to develop new ideas and approaches, to demonstrate how sociocultural factors are incorporated in the process of yielding of new theories. He shows direct and inverse links between foundations of science and new theories and empirical facts evolved from those, how among many potentially possible histories of science a culture selects just those directions which become a real history of science. The author analyses mechanisms of the generation of scientific theories and shows that those are changed in the process of historical development of science. He displays three historical types of scientific rationality (classical, non-classical and post-non-classical, which appears in modern science) and shows features of their coexistence and interplay. It is shown that along with the emerging of post-non-classical rationality science increases the sphere of its worldview applications. Science begins to correlate not only with the basic values of technogenic civilization but also with some values and patterns of traditional cultures.
Theoretical computer science and discrete mathematics
Includes 15 articles published in the Special Issue "Theoretical Computer Science and Discrete Mathematics" of Symmetry (ISSN 2073-8994). This Special Issue is devoted to original and significant contributions to theoretical computer science and discrete mathematics. The aim was to bring together research papers linking different areas of discrete mathematics and theoretical computer science, as well as applications of discrete mathematics to other areas of science and technology. The Special Issue covers topics in discrete mathematics including (but not limited to) graph theory, cryptography, numerical semigroups, discrete optimization, algorithms, and complexity.

International Colloquium on Theoretical Aspects of Computing. ICTAC was founded by the International Institute for Software Technology of the United Nations University (UNU-IIST) to serve as a forum for practiti- ers, lecturers and researchers from academia, industry and government who are interested in theoretical aspects of computing and rigorous approaches to so- ware engineering. The colloquium is aimed particularly, but not exclusively, at participants from developing countries. We believe that this will help developing countries to strengthen their research, teaching and development in computer science and engineering, improve the links between developing countries and developed countries, and establish collaboration in research and education. By providing a venue for the discussion of common problems and their solutions, and for the exchangeof experiences and ideas, this colloquium supports research and development in computer science and software technology. ICTAC is attracting more and more attention from more and more countries.
