Green new deal landscapes : Architectural design

Explores the principles behind the Green New Deal and how they apply to the architectural and landscape professions. Whatever form the Green New Deal will take and is taking, it will be materialised through infrastructure, buildings, landscapes and various other constructed forms. The contributors to this AD examine the theoretical frameworks and design practices within which the protocols of the Green New Deal could be integrated. Initially, such a goal requires a survey of the available design tools and methodologies necessary to achieve a transition to a decarbonised economy in an equitable manner. The articles feature design practices who are transforming their existing modes of operation to work in environments were fossil fuels are kept well below ground, and to explore renewable forms of local, regional and planetary urbanisation.

Green Function Theory of Chemisorption

The book provides an introduction to the Green-Function (GF) theory of chemisorption. It is self-contained, and requires only a basic knowledge of quantum mechanics and solid-state physics. The GF approach lends itself well to the pedagogically desirable modellistic treatment of the subject. Throughout each chapter, step-by-step details are provided by which the calculations are performed, so that readers are led from the simple to the more advanced aspects, in a straightforward manner. In this way, students gain confidence to read the current literature on their own.

Green economy in the transport sector : A case study of Limpopo Province, South Africa

This book provides policy framework on “towards a Green Economy in the Transport Sector” draws inspiration from the UNEP report on Green Economy Modeling (2014), which focused on South Africa with respect to Transport, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, and Energy sectors. This is because in the last 10 years natural resources, environmental risks and ecological issues have come to the attention of the international community because the subject is fundamentally important for overarching sustainable growth. It is important to note that environmental problems such as greenhouse gas emissions and climate change in different regions of the world including South Africa result in significant problems.

Green Chemical Reactions

Green Chemistry is an inventive science based on fundamental research towards the development of new sustainable chemical processes. There is a great need to create a new type of chemistry focused on a new production system, in order to prepare the younger generation to get a greener future. The globalization pushes the chemistry community to adopt ethical issues. In this prospect Green Chemistry can achieve the approval of the society by teaching students to be confident in science and at the same time by convincing people that it is possible to attain technological development with respect and care for the environment we live in. This is why it is of foremost importance that education and fundamental research remain strictly connected, so that democracy and development can grow and progress side by side.

Gravity, Geoid and Space Missions ; GGSM 2004. IAG International Symposium. Porto, Portugal. August 30 - September 3, 2004

GGSM2004 aimed to bring together scientists from different areas in the geosciences, working with gravity and geoid related problems, both from the theoretical and practical points of view. Topics of interest included the integration of heterogeneous data and contributions from satellite and airborne techniques to the study of the spatial and temporal variations of the gravity field. In addition to the special focus on the CHAMP, GRACE, and GOCE satellite missions, attention was also directed toward projects addressing topographic and ice field mapping using SAR, LIDAR, and laser altimetry, as well as missions and studies related to planetary geodesy.

Gravity, Black Holes, and the Very Early Universe : An Introduction to General Relativity and Cosmology

In the early 1900s, Albert Einstein formulated two theories that would forever change the landscape of physics: the Special Theory of Relativity and the General Theory of Relativity. By 1925, quantum mechanics had been born out of the dissection of these two theories, and shortly after that, relativistic quantum field theory. We now had in place some important ties between the laws of physics and the types of particle interactions the new physics was uncovering. Gravity is one of the four types of forces that are found throughout the universe. In fact, although it is a relatively weak force, it operates at huge distances, and so must be accounted for in any cosmological system. Unfortunately, gravity continues to defy our neat categorization of how all the forces in nature work together.

Grassroots Politics and Oil Culture in Venezuela : The Revolutionary Petro-State

This book presents an ethnographic study of how grassroots activism in Venezuela during the Chávez presidency can be understood in relation to the country's history as a petro-state. Taking the contested relationship between the popular sectors and the Venezuelan state as a point of departure, Iselin Åsedotter Strønen explores how notions such as class, race, state, bureaucracy, popular politics, capitalism, neoliberalism, consumption, oil wealth, and corruption gained salience in the Bolivarian process. A central argument is that the Bolivarian process was an attempt to challenge the practices, ideas, and values inherited from Venezuela's historical development as an oil-producing state.

Graph-theoretic concepts in computer science ; Vol. 4271 ; 32nd International Workshop, WG 2006, Bergen, Norway, June 22-23, 2006, Revised Papers

The workshop aims at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can be applied to various areas in computer s- ence, or by extracting new problems from applications. The goal is to present recent research results and to identify and explore directions of future research. The talks showed how recent researchresults from algorithmic graph theory can be used in computer science and which graph-theoreticquestions arisefrom new developments in computer science.

Graph-theoretic concepts in computer science ; 30th International workshop, WG 2004, Bad Honnef, Germany, June 21-23, 2004, Revised Papers

During its 30-year existence, the International Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science has become a distinguished and high-quality computer science event. The workshop aims at uniting theory and practice by demonstrating how graph-theoretic concepts can successfully be applied to v- ious areas of computer science and by exposing new theories emerging from applications. In this way, WG provides a common ground for the exchange of information among people dealing with several graph problems and working in various disciplines. Thereby, the workshop contributes to forming an interdis- plinary research community. The original idea of the Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in C- puter Science was ingenuity in all theoretical aspects and applications of graph concepts, wherever applied. Within the last ten years, the development has strengthened in particular the topic of structural graph properties in relation to computational complexity.

Graphs, networks and algorithms ; 3rd ed.

The third edition of this standard textbook contains additional material: two new application sections (on graphical codes and their decoding) and about two dozen further exercises (with solutions, as throughout the text). Moreover, recent developments have been discussed and referenced, in particular for the travelling salesman problem. The presentation has been improved in many places (for instance, in the chapters on shortest paths and on colorings), and a number of proofs have been reorganized, making them more precise or more transparent.
