Big data-enabled internet of things
Covers analytical techniques for handling the huge amount of data generated by the Internet of Things, from architectures and platforms to security and privacy issues, applications, and challenges as well as future directions. The fields of Big Data and the Internet of Things (IoT) have seen tremendous advances, developments, and growth in recent years. The IoT is the inter-networking of connected smart devices, buildings, vehicles and other items which are embedded with electronics, software, sensors and actuators, and network connectivity that enable these objects to collect and exchange data. The IoT produces a lot of data. Big data describes very large and complex data sets that traditional data processing application software is inadequate to deal with, and the use of analytical methods to extract value from data. This edited book covers analytical techniques for handling the huge amount of data generated by the Internet of Things, from architectures and platforms to security and privacy issues, applications, and challenges as well as future directions.
Assistive technologies, robotics, and automated machines in the health domain
The field of healthcare is constantly evolving and advancing with new technologies and innovations. Among these, assistive technologies, robotics, and automated machines are rapidly gaining ground as powerful tools to improve the quality of care and enhance patient outcomes. From wearable devices that monitor vital signs to surgical robots that assist in complex procedures, these technologies have the potential to revolutionize the way we deliver healthcare. The development and the integration of assistive technologies, care robots, and automated machines are strategic both as single components, when paired together, and when interconnected in the health domain. This reprint explores the latest developments in assistive technologies, robotics, and automated machines in the health domain, providing a comprehensive overview of their applications and potential impact. The reprint is for the benefit of healthcare professionals, researchers, engineers, and students interested in these rapidly evolving fields.
Mathematical Methods for Robust and Nonlinear Control : EPSRC Summer School
The underlying theory on which much modern robust and nonlinear control is based can often be dif?cult for the student to grasp. In particular, the mathematical - pects can be problematic for students from a standard engineering background. The EPSRC sponsored Summer School which was held in Leicester in September 2006 attempted to “?ll the gap” in students’ appreciation the theory relevant to several important areas of control. This book is a collection of lecture notes which were p- sented at that workshop and consists of, broadly, two parts. The ?rst nine chapters are devoted to the theory behind several areas of robust and nonlinear control and are aimed at introducing fundamental concepts to the reader. The last six chapters contain detailed case studies which aim to demonstrate the use and effectiveness of these modern techniques in real engineering applications. It is hoped that this book will provide a useful introduction to many of the more common robust and nonlinear control techniques and serve as a valuable reference for the more adept practitioner.
Maintenance of Process Instrumentation in Nuclear Power Plants
The resurgence of the nuclear power industry at a time when the nuclear plant I&C workforce is diminishing due to aging and retirements has been the motivation for writing this book. This book compiles 30 years of practical knowledge gained by the author and his staff in testing the I&C systems of nuclear power plants around the world. It focuses on process temperature and pressure sensors and the verification of these sensors’ calibration and response time.
Axial flux permanent magnet brushless machines
This book deals with the analysis, construction, design, control and applications of AFPM machines. The authors present their own research results, as well as significant research contributions made by others.
Autotuning of PID Controllers : A Relay Feedback Approach
Recognising the benefits of improved control, the second edition of Autotuning of PID Controllers provides simple yet effective methods for improving PID controller performance. The practical issues of controller tuning are examined using numerous worked examples and case studies in association with specially written autotuning MATLAB® programs to bridge the gap between conventional tuning practice and novel autotuning methods. Autotuning of PID Controllers is more than just a monograph, it is an independent learning tool applicable to the work of academic control engineers and of their counterparts in industry looking for more effective process control and automation.
Analog Circuit Design : Sensors, Actuators and Power Drivers ; Integrated Power Amplifiers from Wireline to RF ; Very High Frequency Front Ends
This book is part of the Analog Circuit Design series and contains the revised contributions of all speakers of the 16th AACD Workshop, which was organized by Jan Sevenhans of AMI Semiconductor and held in Oostende, Belgium on March 27-29, 2007. The book comprises 17 tutorial papers, divided in three chapters, each discussing a very relevant topic in present days analog design.
Advances in Robot Kinematics : Analysis and Design
This book presents the most recent research advances in the theory, design, control and application of robot systems, which are intended for a variety of purposes such as manipulation, manufacturing, automation, surgery, locomotion and biomechanics.
Advancements in Electric Machines
Discusses the stateof-the art of electric machines, associated components and contemporary trends of their development. Novel electric machines considered in this book have been limited to rotary electric machines. Linear electric machines and linear actuators have not been included.
Advanced strategies in control systems with Input and Output Constraints
The different techniques described throughout the book are particularly attractive for industrial applications not only in aeronautical or space domains but also in the context of biological systems domain. Such methods are well suited for the development of tools that help engineers to solve analysis and synthesis problems in the context of control systems with input and output constraints
Adaptive Cooperation between Driver and Assistant System : Improving Road Safety
One of the next challenges in vehicular technology field is to improve drastically the road safety. Current developments are focusing on both vehicle platform and diverse assistance systems. This book presents a new engineering approach based on lean vehicle architecture ready for the drive-by-wire technology.
