Smart Sensing and Context ; 2nd European Conference, EuroSSC 2007, Kendal, England, October 23-25, 2007, Proceedings

EuroSSC 2007 aimed to reflect two complementary viewpoints: a technology-driven viewpoint which encompasses the diversity of intelligent sensing and associated information processing and a user-driven viewpoint exploring scenarios, applications and interaction methods as they relate to smart surroundings. This year the conference received a total of 51 paper submissions. These represented contributions from 21 countries from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (69%); Asia (21%); and North America (10%). This obviously reflects the European origins of the conference.

Perhaps if we want a more nuanced notion of privacy, then we need to re-examine some of our assu- tions, particularly when attackers and defenders share the same resources and infrastructure.

Security in E-Learning

Security in E-Learning is organized in three parts. Emphasizes that security is mainly an organizational and management issue. The third goal highlights improving security as an ongoing process. Security in E-Learning includes technical fundamentals (buzz words), examples and case studies covering each of these three topics. Considering the enormous costs of creating and maintaining courses, it is surprising that security is not yet considered an important issue by professionals, professors and students. Traditional security research has been largely driven by military requirements to enforce secrecy in the realm of e-learning. In most cases, the knowledge contained in e-learning programs is widely available. Therefore, the asset is not the information itself, but the hypermedia presentation used to convey the information.

Security in communication networks ; 4th International Conference, SCN 2004, Amalfi, Italy, September 8-10, 2004, Revised Selected Papers

The main topics included all technical aspects of data security, including : anonymity, authentication, block ciphers, complexity-based cryptography, cryptanalysis, digital signatures, distributed cryptography, hash functions, identifition, implementations, key distribution, privacy, public key encryption, threshold cryptography, and zero knowledge. The Program Committee, consisting of 21 members, considered 79 papers and selected 26 for presentation; one of them was withdrawn by the authors. These papers were selected on the basis of originality, quality and relevance to cryptography and security in communication networks. Due to the high number of submissions, paper selection was a di?cult and challenging task, and many good submissions had to be rejected. Each subm- sion was refereed by at least three reviewers and some had four reports or more.

Ad hoc and sensor networks are making their way from research to real-world deployments. Body and personal-area networks, intelligent homes, environmental monitoring or inter-vehicle communications: there is almost nothing left that is not going to be smart and networked. While a great amount of research has been devoted to the pure networking aspects, ad hoc and sensor networks will not be successfully deployed if security, dependability, and privacy issues are not addressed adequately.

Proceedings and post-proceedings of referred international conferences in computer science and interdisciplinary fields are featured. These results often precede journal publication and represent the most current research. The principal aim of the IFIP series is to encourage education and the dissemination and exchange of information about all aspects of computing.
