This volume contains papers presented at the International Conference on Software Process (ICSP 2008) held in Leipzig, Germany, during May 10-11, 2008. ICSP 2008 was the second conference of the ICSP series. The theme of ICSP 2008 was “Making Globally Distributed Software Development a Success Story. ” Software developers work in a dynamic context of frequently changing technologies and with limited resources. Globally distributed development teams are under ev- increasing pressure to deliver their products more quickly and with higher levels of qu- ity. At the same time, global competition is forcing software development organizations to cut costs by rationalizing processes, outsourcing part of or all development activities, reusing existing software in new or modified applications, and evolving existing systems to meet new needs, while still minimizing the risk of projects failing to deliver.

Macro-Engineering : A Challenge for the Future
Macro-engineering involves the large-scale modification and manipulation of natural systems for the benefit of mankind. The primary goals of some Earth-based macroprojects described in this book are power production, land reclamation, food production, climate change, environment, water, transport and coastal protection. Other Earth or space projects considered here have a more futuristic ring, but our present-day technical skill makes their realization possible. Earth-based macroprojects usually combine different aspects and aims. They have a major impact on the ecology of a region and the inhabitants' means of living (like tourism, fishing, shipping). Long-Term Preservation of Digital Documents : Principles and Practices
Key to our culture is that we can disseminate information, and then maintain and access it over time. While we are rapidly advancing from vulnerable physical solutions to superior, digital media, preserving and using data over the long term involves complicated research challenges and organization efforts. Uwe Borghoff and his coauthors address the problem of storing, reading, and using digital data for periods longer than 50 years. They briefly describe several markup and document description languages like TIFF, PDF, HTML, and XML, explain the most important techniques such as migration and emulation, and present the OAIS (Open Archival Information System) Reference Model. To complement this background information on the technology issues the authors present the most relevant international preservation projects, such as the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative, and experiences from sample projects run by the Cornell University Library and the National Library of the Netherlands. A rated survey list of available systems and tools completes the book.

Logic Programming with Prolog
Logic Programming is the name given to a distinctive style of programming, very different from that of conventional programming languages such as C++ and Java. By far the most widely used Logic Programming language is Prolog. Prolog is a good choice for developing complex applications, especially in the field of Artificial Intelligence. LOD2 is a large-scale integrating project co-funded by the European Commission within the FP7 Information and Communication Technologies Work Program. Lifting Modules : Supplements and Projectivity in Module Theory
Extending modules are generalizations of injective modules and, dually, lifting modules generalize projective supplemented modules. There is a certain asymmetry in this duality. While the theory of extending modules is well documented in monographs and text books, the purpose of our monograph is to provide a thorough study of supplements and projectivity conditions needed to investigate classes of modules related to lifting modules. The text begins with an introduction to small submodules, the radical, variations on projectivity, and hollow dimension. The subsequent chapters consider preradicals and torsion theories (in particular related to small modules), decompositions of modules (including the exchange property and local semi-T-nilpotency), supplements in modules (with specific emphasis on semilocal endomorphism rings), finishing with a long chapter on lifting modules, leading up their use in the theory of perfect rings, Harada rings, and quasi-Frobenius rings.
