Secure Systems Development with UML
Attacks against computer systems can cause considerable economic or physical damage. High-quality development of security-critical systems is difficult, mainly because of the conflict between development costs and verifiable correctness. Jürjens presents the UML extension UMLsec for secure systems development. It uses the standard UML extension mechanisms, and can be employed to evaluate UML specifications for vulnerabilities using a formal semantics of a simplified fragment of UML. Established rules of security engineering can be encapsulated and hence made available even to developers who are not specialists in security. As one example, Jürjens uncovers a flaw in the Common Electronic Purse Specification, and proposes and verifies a correction. This paradigm is based on the following important principles of distributed - plications: Communication: large systems tend to be described using smaller parts that communicate with each other; State: the systems are described on the basis of an explicit notion of state; State change: the behavior of the system is described in terms of (local) changes of the state. The original language is not the only representative for this kind of paradigm, so the scope of the SDL Forum was extended quite soon after the ?rst few events to also include other ITU standardized languages of the same family, such as MSC, ASN.1 and TTCN. This led to the current scope of System Design Languages covering all stages of the development process including in particular SDL, MSC, UML, ASN.1, eODL, TTCN, and URN. The focus is clearly on the advantages to users, and how to get from these languages the same advantage given by the ITU Specification and Description Language: code generation from high-level speci?cations.

Requirements Engineering
Essentially, this is an update that places more emphasis on modelling by describing a greater range of approaches to system modelling. It introduces the UML2, which is the recent standard approved by the OMG. There is also an enhanced discussion on the relationship between requirements management and modelling, which relates well to the concept of rich traceability. The chapter on the requirements management tool DOORS has been revised to use Version 7 of the tool and this is complemented with examples taken from the DOORS/Analyst tool which demonstrates how the concepts of modelling can be captured and created within DOORS. The text is still aimed at students and practitioners of systems engineering who are keen to gain knowledge of using requirements engineering for system development.

This paper reports on the experiences of integrating several Software Engineering techniques by the Rapid Prototyping group of Siemens Corporate Research. This experience was gained during our recent project that involved developing a web-based, workflow-driven information system. The techniques integrated for this project included agile and iterative processes, user centered design, requirements discovery and maturation, and test-driven development. These techniques were integrated and supported by a proprietary process entitled “Siemens Rapid Prototyping” (S-RaP), a software architecture, and project management techniques. This paper will detail the specific characteristics of S-RaP, the software architecture, and the project management techniques that supported the integration of the above listed software engineering techniques. We will also report on our experience with their effectiveness and our thoughts on future enhancements in all three areas

Focusses on a principled way to combine the two dominant paradigms for building multiagent team plans, namely the “belief-desire-intention” (BDI) approach and distributed POMDPs. In this hybrid BDI-POMDP approach, BDI team plans are exploited to improve distributed POMDP tractability and distributed POMDP-based analysis improves BDI team plan performance. Concretely, we focus on role allocation, a fundamental problem in BDI teams – which agents to allocate to the different roles in the team. The hybrid BDI-POMDP approach provides three key contributions. First, unlike prior work in multiagent role allocation, we describe a role allocation technique that takes into account future uncertainties in the domain. The second contribution is a novel decomposition technique, which exploits the structure in the BDI team plans to significantly prune the search space of combinatorially many role allocations. Our third key contribution is a significantly faster policy evaluation algorithm suited for our BDI-POMDP hybrid approach. Finally, we also present experimental results from two domains: mission rehearsal simulation and RoboCupRescue disaster rescue simulation. In the RoboCupRescue domain, we show that the role allocation technique presented in this paper is capable of performing at human expert levels by comparing with the allocations chosen by humans in the actual RoboCupRescue simulation environment.
Pricing of Bond Options : Unspanned Stochastic Volatility and Random Field Models
A major theme of this book is the development of a consistent unified model framework for the evaluation of bond options. In general options on zero bonds (e.g. caps) and options on coupon bearing bonds (e.g. swaptions) are linked by no-arbitrage relations through the correlation structure of interest rates. Therefore, unspanned stochastic volatility (USV) as well as Random Field (RF) models are used to model the dynamics of entire yield curves. The USV models postulate a correlation between the bond price dynamics and the subordinated stochastic volatility process, whereas Random Field models allow for a deterministic correlation structure between bond prices of different terms. Then the pricing of bond options is done either by running a Fractional Fourier Transform or by applying the Integrated Edgeworth Expansion approach. The latter is a new extension of a generalized series expansion of the (log) characteristic function, especially adapted for the computation of exercise probabilities.
