Projection-Based Clustering through Self-Organization and Swarm Intelligence : Combining Cluster Analysis with the Visualization of High-Dimensional Data

It covers aspects of unsupervised machine learning used for knowledge discovery in data science and introduces a data-driven approach to cluster analysis, the Databionic swarm(DBS). DBS consists of the 3D landscape visualization and clustering of data. The 3D landscape enables 3D printing of high-dimensional data structures. The clustering and number of clusters or an absence of cluster structure are verified by the 3D landscape at a glance. DBS is the first swarm-based technique that shows emergent properties while exploiting concepts of swarm intelligence, self-organization and the Nash equilibrium concept from game theory. It results in the elimination of a global objective function and the setting of parameters. By downloading the R package DBS can be applied to data drawn from diverse research fields and used even by non-professionals in the field of data mining.

Medical Reprints: 3D ed.

3D printing or additive manufacturing is a novel method of manufacturing parts directly from a digital model by using layer by layer material build-up approaches. This discovery is predicted to have the greatest impact on the future industries. Additive manufacturing has numerous applications in different areas including healthcare. Applications encompass many medical fields such as dentistry, surgery, and medical devices as well as the pharmaceutical field. Due to transplant donor deficiencies, ‘bioprinting’ has been invented to print biocompatible organs. Adding ‘time’ as a 4th dimension, 4D printing uses ‘smart materials’ to initiate the ‘smart drugs’ era.

Future tech : How to capture value from disruptive industry trends

In Future Tech, the author reveals that true change only results from combining the forces of science and technology, policy and regulation, new business models (i.e. sharing economy) and social dynamics (whether or not people adopt it). Whether these four forces align explains why some technologies, such as AI, blockchain, robotics, synthetic biology and 3D printing, stick and why others fail.

Current techniques and materials in dentistry

Dental implants are one of the most interesting dental treatments. PEEK (polyetheretherketone) has recently been reported as a further innovation in polymer implant materials, although it has not yet met the requirements to be a biomechanical requirement. In the placement of mini-screws used in orthodontic treatments, micro-cracks caused by overtorquing in thick and hard bone, and the consequent heat production, can reduce the success rate. Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) techniques are becoming increasingly popular. Since complete dentures can be produced using an additive (3D printing) or subtractive (milling) process, CAD/CAM techniques for denture fabrication have many clinical and laboratory advantages.
