Security for Telecommunications Networks
Telecommunications networks are a critical component of the economic and social infrastructures in which we live. Each day, well over three billion people across the globe rely upon these systems, as their primary means of connecting to the world around them. It creates a starting place for new researchers in the field of secure telecommunications networks. This volume not only discusses emerging threats, along with system vulnerability, but also presents the open questions posited by network evolution and defense mechanisms. This is one of the first books to discuss securing current and next generation telecommunications networks by the security community.

Securing Biometrics Applications
Biometrics is becoming increasingly common in establishments that require high security such as state security and financial sectors. The increased threat to national security by terrorists has led to the explosive popularity of biometrics. A number of biometric devices are now available to capture biometric measurements such as fingerprints, palm, retinal scans, keystroke, voice recognition and facial scanning. However, the accuracy of these measurements varies, which has a direct relevance on the levels of security they offer. With the need to combat the problems related to identity theft and other security issues, society will have to compromise between security and personal freedoms. It investigates and identifies key impacts of biometric security applications, while discovering opportunities and challenges presented by the biometric technologies available. This volume also includes new biometric measures for national ID card, passport and centralized database system.
Secure Systems Development with UML
Attacks against computer systems can cause considerable economic or physical damage. High-quality development of security-critical systems is difficult, mainly because of the conflict between development costs and verifiable correctness. Jürjens presents the UML extension UMLsec for secure systems development. It uses the standard UML extension mechanisms, and can be employed to evaluate UML specifications for vulnerabilities using a formal semantics of a simplified fragment of UML. Established rules of security engineering can be encapsulated and hence made available even to developers who are not specialists in security. As one example, Jürjens uncovers a flaw in the Common Electronic Purse Specification, and proposes and verifies a correction. With a clear separation between the general description of his approach and its mathematical foundations, the book is ideally suited both for researchers and graduate students in UML or formal methods and security, and for advanced professionals writing critical applications.

Reconfigurable Computing : Architectures, Tools and Applications ; 4th International Workshop, ARC 2008, London, UK, March 26-28, 2008. Proceedings
The idea of reconfigurable hardware systems has represented the Holy Grail for computer system designers. It has been recognized for a long time that the microprocessor provides high fiexibility but at a very low performance merit in terms of MIPS/W or other such measures. Reconfigurable systems are thus attractive as they can be configured to provide the best match for the computational requirements at that specific time, giving much better area – speed – power performance. However, the practicalities of achieving such a reconfigurable system are - merous andrequire the development of: suitable reconfigurable hardware to s- portthe dynamic behavior; programming tools to allowthe dynamic behavior of the reconfigurability to be modelled; programming languages to support recfiguration
