Abstract |
Being critical, the stability of clayey soil, is a priority for the civil engineer in constructions of roads and buildings. This experimental study comes in the context of examination of the effectiveness of menial stabilizers. Lime (L), Natural Pozzolana (NP), and Combinations of both, were examined to enhance the characteristics of compaction, consistency and to restrict the shrinkage behavior of clayey soil. The percentages of additives were 0-8% (L), 0-20% (NP) and Combinations of the two additives. Test results showed that the Combination of (L) and (NP) increased the maximum dry density (MDD), but decreased the optimum moisture content (OMC). The characteristics of consistency were obviously enhanced when Combinations of (L) and (NP) were added; so plasticity index largely decreased which means the enhancement of workability. This enhancement was little when (NP) was added alone. Restriction on shrinkage behavior of clayey soil clearly appeared when (L) was added, but slightly appeared when (NP) was added. The best result was obtained when the Combination of 8 %( L) and 20% (NP) was added. Keywords: Clayey soil, lime, natural pozzolana, compactness, plasticity index, linear shrinkage |
