Abstract |
This research explores the factors affecting remittances to Syrian Arab Republic using multiple and multiple stepwise regression based on Ordinary Least Squares Estimates for the period from 2002 to 2016 after controlling for the crisis conditions. This study investigates the impact of a number of economic factors on remittances and confirms that the official exchange rate is the only significant factor in explaining remittances. This indicates that expatriates transfer more money home when the value of Syrian pound declines. Hence, the central bank of Syria could attract more remittances if it brings official exchange rates closer to market rates. Keywords: Remittances, Exchange rate, Syrian Arab Republic. |
