Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ammar Al-khayat

Professor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Control, with over four decades of academic and research experience at Damascus University and the Arab International University, in addition to significant administrative expertise, having previously served as Vice Dean for Administrative Affairs at Damascus University for nearly five years.

Holds a State Doctorate in Pharmaceutical Sciences – Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry from the University of Montpellier I – France, along with two Diplomas of Advanced Studies in Pharmaceutical Medicinal Chemistry and Organic Chemistry from the same university, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Damascus University. He began his academic career as a teaching assistant at Damascus University and advanced to become a professor, later serving as Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Control at Damascus University for 14 years. Since 2021, he has held the position of Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Control at the Faculty of Pharmacy – Arab International University.

He has taught core courses in Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Medicinal Chemistry, and Drug Synthesis at several Syrian and Arab universities and has supervised numerous master's and doctoral theses in the fields of pharmaceutical chemistry and drug control.

He has published over 25 scientific papers in internationally peer-reviewed journals, covering diverse topics such as the development of pharmaceutical analysis methods using HPLC and GC, studies on the purity of pharmaceutical products, and recent research on protease inhibitors for the coronavirus (COVID-19) and novel compounds with anticancer efficacy. He has also authored several university textbooks in practical and theoretical pharmaceutical organic chemistry, which are taught in Syrian pharmacy faculties.
