Prof. Dr. Amr Armanazi

Dr. Amr Armanazi is one of the most prominent scientific and administrative figures in Syria and the Arab world, distinguished by his elite academic background and extensive practical experience in electrical engineering, scientific research, and management. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the American University of Beirut (AUB), followed by both a Master’s and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University in New York, USA.

He began his professional career as a researcher at the prestigious Bell Labs in the United States (1971–1976). In 1976, he joined the Scientific Studies and Research Center (SSRC) in Syria, where he rose through the ranks to serve as its Director General from 1999 to 2021. Dr. Armanazi has held numerous leadership and scientific positions, including membership in the Supreme Council of the Higher Commission for Scientific Research, and the Boards of Trustees of several Syrian universities, most notably the Arab International University (AIU), the Syrian Virtual University (SVU), and Manara University. Additionally, he served on the Board of Directors of the Distinction and Creativity Agency, the Syrian Scientific Society for Informatics (SSSI), the Board of Commissioners of the Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Post, and the Higher Supervisory Board of the Arab School for Science and Technology.

On a regional level, Dr. Armanazi participated in strategic Arab initiatives under the supervision of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). He was also a member of the steering committee for the Regional Network for the Management of Science and Technology, supported by the UNESCO office in Cairo. He has been a prominent figure in various national, regional, and international scientific conferences and seminars.

He has left a significant scientific legacy through his research, studies, and lectures in both Arabic and English. His work covers a wide spectrum of fields, including electronics, information and communications technology (ICT), engineering design and development, R&D and innovation management, as well as science and technology policies, academia-industry linkages, and entrepreneurship.

His career serves as a model for the scientist-administrator who successfully bridges the gap between rigorous scientific research and strategic management, contributing profoundly to the development of the scientific and technological infrastructure in Syria and the Arab region.
