Academic Advising

Academic Advisin:

Arab International University (AIU), as a private Syrian university, considers Academic Advising a main factor for educational success, as it recognizes problems faced by students and helps them transcend these issues effectively to obtain a better study performance. Academic Advising depends on expert scientific competences offered in each faculty. Students are divided at the beginning of each academic semester and evaluated according to their academic status to acquire the necessary advising.

Our Academic Advisory system seeks to fulfill the following:

  1. Introducing students to the credit-hour system, the registration policy, the suspension and postponement rules as well as students’ GPA and graduation/passing requirements.
  2. Introducing students to the examination system regulations and informing them of the consequences/fraud sanctions that will occur if a student decides to break any of the mentioned regulations.
  3. Introducing students to the academic study plan and explaining the courses available at AIU along with their application requirements.
  4. Advising and helping students choose appropriate subjects each semester.
  5. Helping faltering students overcome the obstacles they may face during their university
  6. Encouraging well performing students and helping them excel in their studies.
  7. Guidance in choosing the academic major for each student.

Organizing Academic Advising:

An Academic Advisory system is formed in every faculty at the beginning of each academic year. The system consists of the best scientific and administrative experts run by either the university Dean or one of the Vice Deans. The Academic Advisory system at AIU, appoints individual students to advisors, who work on supplying these students with the necessary requirements to boost their productivity and work efficiency. Meetings are held during each semester to ensure Academic Advising at AIU is proceeding as planned and achieving the best student outcomes.

The Academic Advisor is responsible for the following during each academic semester:

  1. Advising and introducing new students in the faculty.
  2. Following up on students’ attendance and finding out reasons for absence as well as reasons for student delay.
  3. Following up on students’ study performance through their assessments and midterm results, as well as finding solutions for any early faltering in work performance.
  4. Keeping in touch with teachers through the university Dean and holding meetings to conduct rehabilitation sessions for handicapped students and those in need of special care.
  5. Guidance in choosing the academic major for each student.

The Academic Advisory system will also file a report on the activities it has performed during that semester and deliver it to the College Board where observations and recommendations will be made, the reports are then gathered along with their recommendations and presented to the university council for approval.
