Writing in Context(s) : Textual Practices and Learning Processes in Sociocultural Settings
The premise that writing is a socially-situated act of interaction between readers and writers is well established. This volume first, corroborates this premise by citing pertinent evidence, through the analysis of written texts and interactive writing contexts, and from educational settings across different cultures from which we have scant evidence. Secondly, all chapters, though addressing the social nature of writing, propose a variety of perspectives, making the volume multidisciplinary in nature. Finally, this volume accounts for the diversity of the research perspectives each chapter proposes by situating the plurality of terminological issues and methodologies into a more integrative framework. Thus a coherent overall framework is created within which different research strands (i.e., the sociocognitive, sociolinguistic research, composition work, genre analysis) and pedagogical practices developed on L1 and L2 writing can be situated and acquire meaning.

Valuing Agroforestry Systems : Methods and Applications
Offers practical means for strengthening the economics and policy dimension of the agroforestry discipline. The applied economic methodologies encompass a wide variety of case studies including enterprise/farm budget models through Faustmann models, Policy Analysis Matrix, production function approach, risk assessment models, dynamic programming, linear programming, meta-modeling, contingent valuation, attribute-based choice experiments, econometric modeling, and institutional economic analysis. It is our belief that these methodologies help agroforestry students and professionals conduct rigorous assessment of economic and policy aspects of agroforestry systems and to produce less biased and more credible information. Furthermore, the economic and policy issues explored in the book – profitability, environmental benefits, risk reduction, household constraints, rural development, and institutional arrangements – are central to further agroforestry adoption in both tropical and temperate regions
Valuation in Life Sciences : A Practical Guide
Recognizes that there is no consent on how to apply valuation methodologies in life sciences. One of the complicating factors is that, compared to other industries, valuation of biotech innovation is much more demanding. The long 10-15-year development and clinical trials process still represents the main risks faced by any biotech company. Added to that is the fact that getting a drug across the regulatory goal line and receiving Food and Drug Administration approval (or other regulatory agency - proval in the United States or elsewhere in the world) for marketing is no longer good enough.

Tutorials in Mathematical Biosciences IV : Evolution and Ecology
The book offers an easy introduction to fast growing research areas in evolution of species, population genetics, ecological models, and population dynamics. The first two chapters review the concept and methodologies of phylogenetic trees; computational schemes and illustrations are given, including applications such as tracing the origin of SARS and influenza. The third chapter introduces the reader to ecological models, including predator-prey models. This chapter includes and introduction to reaction-diffusion equations, which are used to analyze the ecological models. The next chapter reviews a broad range of ongoing research in population dynamics, including evolution of dispersal models; it also features interesting mathematical theorems and lists open problems.
Trends in Supply Chain Design and Management : Technologies and Methodologies
With the rapid development of information and network technologies and market requirements, new challenges in supply chain design and management have emerged. Notably, there are four new technologies which can affect traditional supply chain management: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology; mobile transaction technology; information handling and storage technology; and multi-agent technology. These new technologies enable global companies to change their ways of thinking about supply chain management in order to cope with the changing environment. In line with this rapid development of technologies are new challenging methodologies: sustainable supply chain management, advanced supply chain planning, available-to-promise (ATP) system and lean supply chain design and management.

This volume addresses the demand for theories and applications of intelligent systems and computer engineering to meet the needs of rapidly developing high technologies.Topics covered in this book include: - Automated Planning - Expert Systems - Machine Learning - Fuzzy Systems - Knowledge-based Systems - Computer Systems Organization - Computing Methodologies
Transmembrane β-barrel proteins : Methods and protocols
Explores experimental strategies and protocols for the expression, assembly, characterization, and exploitation of transmembrane β-barrel proteins. Beginning with methodologies to study their assembly, the book continues with protocols for characterizing the landscape of transmembrane β-barrel protein interactions with other cellular factors, dissecting processes of protein transport in bacteria and mitochondria, examining structural characterization, determination, and prediction, and more. Written for the highly successful Methods in Molecular Biology series, chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step and readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and tips on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls.

The vision of the Semantic Web is to enhance today’s Web via the exploi- tion of machine-processable metadata. The explicit representation of the sem- tics of data, accompanied with domain theories (ontologies), will enable a web that provides a qualitatively new level of service. It will weave together an - crediblylargenetworkofhumanknowledgeandwillcomplementitwithmachine processability. Various automated services will help the user to achieve goals by accessing and providing information in a machine-understandable form. This process may ultimately create extremely knowledgeable systems with various specialized reasoning services systems. Many technologies and methodologies are being developed within arti?cial intelligence, human language technology, machine learning, databases, software engineering and information systems that can contribute to the realization of this vision.
The role of six sigma culture in supporting the organizational culture in Syrian banks
Aims to try to try to highlight on the impact of the new administrative methodologies (six sigma) on the culture of a sample of banks in Syria (the International Islamic Bank and Al-Sharq Bank) and the extent of the banks' willingness to apply the Six Sigma approach. The results of the comparison between the two banks showed that there were statistically significant differences between the two banks in favor of Syria International Islamic Bank, as it has more six sigma components in all cultures than the components of Al Sharq Bank.
The role of six sigma
Banking Systems face a lot of changes and challenges, which necessitate applying new management and performance improvement concepts, as an attempt to achieve excellence, Six Sigma is considered to be one of the best methodologies that help in this regard because it may be utilized in improving banks performance and decrease defects in their processes. This study aimed to highlight the role of six sigma approach to improve the performance of Syrian banks according to the application of six sigma model elements (DMAIC) and selecting six sigma team (Improvement Team). Conclusions of the study show the importance of implementing Six Sigma methodology in all local sections including industrial and service organizations, and there is a tendency in the Syrian banks to utilize six sigma approach.
