Multifunctional Pharmaceutical Nanocarriers
Various pharmaceutical nanocarriers, such as nanospheres, nanocapsules, liposomes, micelles, cell ghosts, lipoproteins and some others are widely used for experimental (and already clinical) delivery of therapeutic and diagnostic agents. The use of nanoparticulate pharmaceutical carriers to enhance the in vivo efficiency of many drugs well established itself over the past decade both in pharmaceutical research and clinical setting.
Hyperlipidemia Management for Primary Care : An Evidence-Based Approach
Hyperlipidemia Management for Primary Care: An Evidence-Based Approach is a comprehensive resource for primary care providers that offers information and treatment options that can be incorporated with ease into everyday clinical practice. This evidence-based text weighs the benefits of pharmacologic treatments, popular diets, therapeutic foods, herbs and vitamins as a means to manage hyperlipidemia.
High Density Lipoproteins : From Biological Understanding to Clinical Exploitation
In this Handbook of Experimental Pharmacology on “High Density Lipoproteins – from biological understanding to clinical exploitation” contributing authors (members of COST Action BM0904/HDLnet) summarize in more than 20 chapters our current knowledge on the structure, function, metabolism and regulation of HDL in health and several diseases as well as the status of past and ongoing attempts of therapeutic exploitation.
CO-ENZYME Q10
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a fat-soluble compound that is synthesized by the body and can be obtained from the diet. Co-Q10 plays a central role in mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation and the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). It also functions as an antioxidant in cell membranes and lipoproteins. Endogenous synthesis and dietary intake provide sufficient C0- Q10 to prevent deficiency in healthy people, although coenzyme Q10 concentrations in tissues decline with age. Oral supplementation of coenzyme Q10 increases coenzyme Q10 concentrations in plasma and lipoproteins. Oral high-dose co- Q10 is usually effective to treat mitochondrial disorders that are caused by mutations in coenzyme Q10 biosynthetic genes.
Bacterial secretion systems : Methods and protocols
Cover techniques used to study secretion systems. Chapters focus on identifying and localizing the different subunits, defining interactions within subunits, monitoring conformational changes, purifying and imaging of large complexes, defining the assembly pathway by fluorescence microscopy and the role of energy during assembly and/or secretion, identifying secreted effectors as well as using reporters to follow effector transport. Written in the highly
Antioxidants and Cardiovascular Disease
Antioxidants and Cardiovascular Disease, Second Edition addresses a complex but very timely and fascinating problem in cardiovascular medicine. It is written by recognized experts in the fields of atherosclerosis and antioxidants. It should be of interest not only to academicians but also to practicing physicians.
