In 2000 the conference moved out of Australia to be held in Brighton, UK; in 2001 it was in Osaka, Japan; in 2002, Crema near Milan, Italy; in 2003, Oxford, UK; in 2004, Wellington, New Zealand; and in 2005, Melbourne, Australia. The next two conferences are planned to be in Italy and Croatia. Delegate numbers have grown from about 100 in 1997, to a regular figure in excess of 500. Social Indicators Research: An International and Interdisciplinary Journal for Quality-of-Life Measurement was founded by Alex C. Michalos and published its first issue in March 1974. It has been the leading journal for scholarly research in its field for over thirty years. This volume is published in celebration of that record of accomplishment. The 19 articles assembled here are a selection drawn from the 34 (2.4%) most frequently cited articles in the journal’s history. An introductory essay written by Michalos explains the historical and scientific importance of each article in the development of social indicators or quality-of-life research. It provides a rare overview of the perceived scientific problems that researchers around the world addressed in the first three decades of exploration, as well as a view of some of the problems to be addressed in the future. Bill Ricker : An appreciation
This book is the first complete biography of one of the founders of fishery science, William Edwin (Bill) Ricker (1908 - 2001). Bill is immortalized in the Ricker Curve. He developed the Curve in his studies of stock and recruitment in fisheries, but it has been widely applied in many areas of science. Bill is best known for his contributions to fishery science, but he was also internationally recognized as an entomologist and a scientific editor. This book combines Bill’s own recollections with contributions from those who knew him and worked with him as a colleague during his multifaceted career. Antecedents of venture firms' internationalization : A conjoint analysis of international entrepreneurship in the net economy
With the continuing dispersion of the global digital network and performance improvements of information and communication technologies, resource-poor start-ups with online business models have emerged in large numbers. These firms are able to deploy their competitive advantages across their country borders early in their life-cycle and engage in international commerce at a fast pace. An increased immediacy between the firms and the globally accessible customer is observed. Julia Christofor’s study aims to analyze the conditions of the initial internationalization decision in the Net Economy. Based on Information Systems, International Entrepreneurship, and Entrepreneurship literature, factors, which constitute the internationalization propensity, are derived. The results of this study suggest that a holistic perspective including the founder, business model and the firm level should be considered when explaining the internationalization propensity of entrepreneurs.

This is the fourth conference dedicated to the memory of Professor Esen Ozkarahan, who was one of the pioneers of database machine research and a founder of database systems in Turkey. The main goal of the conference is to bring together researchers from all around the world working in di?erent areas of information systems to share new ideas and represent their latest results. This time we received 120 submissions from 27 countries.The Program Committee selected 38 papers for presentation at the conference.
