Validated Designs for Object-oriented Systems
Describes an object-oriented design approach that combines the benefits of abstract modelling with the analytic power of formal methods, to give designs that can be rigorously validated & assured with automated support. Aimed at software architects, designers & developers as well as computer scientists, no prior knowledge of formal methods is assumed. Cnstitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 6th International Workshop on Technologies for E-Services held in September 2005.The nine revised full papers presented together with one keynote article were carefully reviewed and selected from forty submissions for inclusion in the book. As e-services become pervasive, e-service management will play a central role. The workshop's objective is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to present new developments and experience reports. The goal of the TES workshop is to identify the technical issues, models, and infrastructures that enable enterprises to provide e-services to other businesses and individual customers.

The technical program of SPLC 2005 included. – two keynotes from David Weiss (Avaya, USA) and Jan Bosch (Nokia, F- land), both leading experts with academic and industrial insights; – 17 full and 3 short research papers organized around the following themes: feature modeling, re-engineering, strategies, validation, scoping and architecture, and product derivation ; – eight experience reports describing commercial application of product line practices ; – two panels focused on special topics in product line practice and product line research ; – tool demonstrations ; – a Hall of Fame session that continued the SPLC tradition in as lightly revised format. In addition, the technical program was preceded by a tutorial and workshop day that included ten half-day tutorials presented by well-recognized experts and five workshops on specific areas of product line research.

This volume contains the papers presented at the 13 SDL Forum, Paris, France entitled “Design for Dependable Systems” and respects the intent to have a balance between experience reports and research papers related to System Design Languages. The language that was at the heart of the first few SDL Forums was the ITU-T Specification and Description Language defined in Z.100, and the app- cation domain was almost entirely fixed-line telephone communication.

Traditionally, aspect-oriented software development (AOSD) has focused on the implementation phase of the software lifecycle: aspects are identified and captured mainly in code. Therefore, most current AOSD approaches place the burden for aspect identification and management on the programmer working at low levels of abstraction. However, aspects are often present well before the implementation phase, such as in domain models, requirements and software architecture. Identification and capture of these early aspects ensure that aspects related to the problem domain (as opposed to merely the implementation) will be appropriately captured, reasoned about and available. This offers improved opportunities for early recognition and negotiation of trade-offs and allows forward and backward aspect traceability. This makes requirements, architecture, and implementation more seamless, and allows a more systematic application of aspects.
