One Hundred Years of Chemical Warfare : Research, Deployment, Consequences
On April 22, 1915, the German military released 150 tons of chlorine gas at Ypres, Belgium. Carried by a long-awaited wind, the chlorine cloud passed within a few minutes through the British and French trenches, leaving behind at least 1,000 dead and 4,000 injured. This chemical attack, which amounted to the first use of a weapon of mass destruction, marks a turning point in world history. The preparation as well as the execution of the gas attack was orchestrated by Fritz Haber, the director of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry in Berlin-Dahlem. During World War I, Haber transformed his research institute into a center for the development of chemical weapons (and of the means of protection against them).
Mitral valve diseases
The heart is a pump consisting of 4 chambers:2 atria and 2 ventricles and 4 valves one of them is mitral valve which is located betweenthe left atrium and the left ventricle and prevents the backward flow of blood.Ithas several unique features: Mitral annulus, two leaflets, the chordae tendineaeand papillary muscles. The mitral valve may become stenotic or may regurgitate. Regurgitation(or leakage of the valve): When the valve (s) do not close completely. Stenosis (or narrowing of the valve): When the valve (s) opening becomes narrowed. Mitral stenosis is categorized as mild, moderate or severe it is typically causedby (Rheumatic fever, A congenital heart, Calcium deposits .....) and it caused severalsymptoms such as: dyspnea, hemoptysis, fatigue, Chest pain and others Where as the Signs and symptoms of mitral valve regurgitation, can include: Abnormal heart sound, Shortness of breath, Heart palpitations, Fatigue, edma, Coughing.
MDCT : A Practical Approach
Computed tomography (CT) is the most rapidly evolving medical imaging technology. This book describes current examination techniques and advanced clinical applications of state-of-the-art multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) scanners in chapters contributed by several distinguished radiologists and clinicians. Each chapter is written from a practical perspective so that radiologists, residents, medical physicists, and radiology technologists can obtain relevant information about MDCT applications in neuroradiology, cardiac imaging, chest, abdominal, and musculoskeletal radiology subspecialties. Each coauthor provides pertinent illustrations and tables for better understanding of current and advanced applications of MDCT scanners. Readers will benefit from the experience these authors describe in chapters on MDCT technology, contrast administration techniques, contrast adverse effects and their management, and advanced applications of MDCT.
Intelligent Virtual Agents ; Vol.3661 : 5th International Working Conference, IVA 2005, Kos, Greece, September 12-14, 2005, Proceedings
The origin of the Intelligent Virtual Agents conference dates from a successful workshop on Intelligent Virtual Environments held in Brighton at the 13th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI'98). This workshop was followed by a second one held in Salford in Manchester in 1999. Subsequent events took place in Madrid, Spain in 2001 and Irsee, Germany in 2003 and attracted participants from both sides of the Atlantic as well as Asia. th This volume contains the proceedings of the 5 International Working Conference on Intelligent Virtual Agents, IVA 2005, held on Kos Island, Greece, September 12–14, 2005, which highlighted once again the importance and vigor of the research field. A half-day workshop under the title “Socially Competent IVA’s: We are not alone in this (virtual) world!” also took place as part of this event. IVA 2005 received 69 submissions from Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia. The papers published here are the 26 full papers and 14 short papers presented at the conference, as well as one-page descriptions of the 15 posters and the descriptions of the featured invited talks by Prof. Justine Cassell, of Northwestern University and Prof. Kerstin Dautenhahn, of the University of Hertfordshire. We would like to thank a number of people that have contributed to the success of this conference. First of all, we thank the authors for their high-quality work and their willingness to share their ideas.

Imaging of occupational and environmental disorders of the chest
This book provides an up-to-date and comprehensive approach to modern imaging of environmental and occupational diseases of the chest. The first part of the book addresses the basic knowledge required to understand imaging in this context, while the second focuses on the imaging results achieved in a variety of specific disorders. There is particular emphasis on the role of thin-section computed tomography since this technique facilitates the detection of early subclinical abnormalities.
Hybrid Intelligent Systems : Analysis and Design
The objective of this edited volume is to offer a general view at the recent conceptual developments of Soft Computing (SC) regarded as a general methodology supporting the design of hybrid systems along with their diversified applications to modeling, simulation and control of non-linear dynamical systems. As of now, SC methodologies embrace neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms and chaos theory. Each of these methodologies exhibits well delineated advantages and disadvantages. Interestingly, they have been found useful in solving a broad range of problems. However, many real-world complex problems require a prudent, carefully orchestrated integration of several of these methodologies to fully achieve the required efficiency, accuracy, and interpretability of the solutions. In this edited volume, an overview of SC methodologies, and their applications to modeling, simulation and control, will be given in an introductory paper by the Editors. Then, detailed methods for integrating the different SC methodologies in solving real-world problems will be given in the papers by the other authors in the book. The edited volume will cover a wide spectrum of applications including areas such as: robotic dynamic systems, non-linear plants, manufacturing systems, and time series prediction.

The role of microbiota in colorectal cancer has been studied since alterations in its composition were observed. Ever since, there are more and more pieces of evidence that microbiota could be implicated in colorectal cancer progression. Thus, the components of the microbiota could be biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of colorectal cancer. It is truly important to address how the microbiota interacts with the host and how the host shapes the microbiota, in order to understand the biological pathways and mechanisms involved in their relationship and the consequences of their interactions in colorectal cancer.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of two colocated international workshops EPEW 2005 (European Performance Engineering Workshop) and WS-FM 2005 (Web Services and Formal Methods) held in Versailles, France in September 2005. The 20 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 59 submissions. For EPEW 2005 only 10 papers - of the 32 submitted - were accepted for presentation; they deal with queueing theory, bounding techniques, stochastic model checking, communication schemes analysis for high-speed LAN, QOS analysis in wireless ad-hoc networks and optical networks analysis. The main topics of the 10 papers accepted for WS-FM 2005 - from 27 submissions - include: protocols and standards for WS (SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, etc.); languages and description methodologies for Choreography/Orchestration/Workflow (BPML, XLANG and BizTalk, WSFL, WS-BPEL, etc.); coordination techniques for WS (transactions, agreement, coordination services, etc.); semantics-based dynamic WS discovery services (based on Semantic Web/Ontology Techniques or other semantic theories); security, performance evaluation and quality of service of WS; semi-structured data and XML related technologies; comparisons with different related technologies/approaches.

Deployment and operation of complex software in heterogeneous execution environments : The SODALITE approach
This book provides an overview of the work developed within the SODALITE project, which aims at facilitating the deployment and operation of distributed software on top of heterogeneous infrastructures, including cloud, HPC and edge resources. The experts participating in the project describe how SODALITE works and how it can be exploited by end users. While multiple languages and tools are available in the literature to support DevOps teams in the automation of deployment and operation steps, still these activities require specific know-how and skills that cannot be found in average teams. The SODALITE framework tackles this problem by offering modelling and smart editing features to allow those we call Application Ops Experts to work without knowing low level details about the adopted, potentially heterogeneous, infrastructures. The framework offers also mechanisms to verify the quality of the defined models, generate the corresponding executable infrastructural code, automatically wrap application components within proper execution containers, orchestrate all activities concerned with deployment and operation of all system components, and support on-the-fly self-adaptation and refactoring.
