Caesarean rates are now reported from South American countries of over 50% and rates of over 32% are currently being reported from the United States, China, England and Scotland. Surgical complications can occur at the time of operation and there are major implications for future pregnancies, including increased rates of placenta previa/accreta, stillbirth and preterm labour. Biometric authentication refers to identifying an individual based on his or her distinguishing physiological and/or behavioral characteristics. It associates an individual with a previously determined identity based on that individual s appearance or behavior. Because many physiological or behavioral characteristics (biometric indicators) are distinctive to each person, biometric identifiers are inherently more reliable and more capable than knowledge-based (e.g., password) and token-based (e.g., a key) techniques in differentiating between an authorized person and a fraudulent impostor. For this reason, more and more organizations are looking to automated identity authentication systems to improve customer satisfaction, security, and operating efficiency as well as to save critical resources.

The advantages and disadvantages of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) are discussed by a group of experts with regard to the epidemiological evidence. However, the focus of the discussion is the problem of breast cancer risk. Among other things, it is shown that the results derived from epidemiological studies do not coincide with the growth characteristics of these tumors, so that further population studies with the inclusion of pathobiological expertise appear necessary. The benefits and risks of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) are discussed by a group of experts with a view towards the evidence provided by recent epidemiological studies. Although all aspects of HRT indications and contra-indications are reviewed, the particular emphasis of this discussion is on breast cancer. Among other things, it is shown that the evidence on breast cancer provided in epidemiological studies does not match the growth characteristics of the tumors, and that further population research incorporating pathobiological assessments is required.
Bioactives and pharmacology of Legumes
A variety of bioactives and therapeutics from the legume family (Fabaceae or Leguminosae) are thoroughly detailed. For each species included in the volume, a brief introduction is given, the plant’s bioactive compounds are listed, and its chemical structures shown, followed by their pharmacological activities. Many of these plants have medicinal activities that include antiviral, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective and cardioprotective. The biochemical characteristics of the 37 plants included, such as the type of starch, protein, and fibers, can be exploited as binders, excipients, thickeners, and dispersants in the formulation of various products in the pharmaceutical industry. Bacteriophages (or phages), the most abundant viral entity of the planet. On the basis of their unique characteristics and anti-bacterial property, phages are being the freshly evaluated taxonomically. Phages replicate inside the host either by lytic or lysogenic mode after infecting and using the cellular machinery of a bacterium. Phage became an important agent for combating pathogenic bacteria in clinical treatments and its related research gained momentum. However, due to recent rise of bacterial resistance on antibiotics, applications of phage (phage therapy) become an unavoidable option of research. In this dissertation, the advantage and limitations of Bacteriophages for use in humans will be discussed. Furthermore, this dissertation deals with recent development of its application in the areas of biotechnology.
