The Network(ed) Economy : The Nature, Adoption and Diffusion of Communication Standards

In an increasingly globalized and networked world modern communication channels and new electronic media standards are constantly changing traditional interaction patterns of humans and even machines. Communication-based interaction is of pivotal economic importance and the availability of generally accepted electronic communication standards is essential in order to decrease communication-related transaction costs.This book combines the theories of diffusion and network effects and presents a new goods classification model to explore the dissemination of IT and e-business standards. On this basis it designs two applications that support and improve firms' electronic interlaced communication by means of automation and standardization effects.

The Nature of Supply Chain Management Research : Insights from a Content Analysis of International Supply Chain Management Literature from 1990 to 2006

Julia Wolf focuses on the theoretical aspect of SCM by analyzing the evolution SCM research has undergone and by assessing the question whether SCM research can be considered a scientific paradigm as of today. A number of factors are investigated based on empirical data gathered from publications on SCM in international refereed journals from 1990 to 2006. As a result, four major periods are distinguished in the evolution of SCM research: emergence, acceptance, growth and a final phase of establishment. These periods are characterized in terms of the following factors and their alterations over time: scientific values, object of study, constructs, methods, schools of thought, and the link of research to practice.

The Myc/Max/Mad Transcription Factor Network

Intense study of the enigmatic myc proto-oncogene over the last 20 years has broadened our view of its functions and led to insights into transcriptional regulation as well as cancer etiology, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and organismal development. How can one gene be involved in so many aspects of cellular behavior? Of particular interest is the fact that the Myc protein functions as part of a network (comprising Myc, Max, and Mad proteins) whose specific interactions direct transcriptional activation or repression of a large number of target genes. The chapters in this volume examine both molecular and biological aspects of the Myc/Max/Mad network. Included are contributions concerning the regulation of its expression, the mechanisms underlying its diverse transcriptional activities, the structural bases for its critical interactions, and the nature of its target genes. The Immune Synapse as a Novel Target for Therapy

The immune synapse can be compared to a molecular machine that controls T cell activation when getting in contact with an antigen-presenting cell (APC). The immune synapse is involved in the transfer of information across the T cell–APC junction. It plays an essential role in the control and nature of the immune response.In recent years several approaches have been developed to reprogram the immune response by targeting molecules involved in the immune synapse. Monoclonal antibodies, such as those targeting the lymphocyte co-receptor, costimulatory and adhesion molecules (CD3, CD4, CD40L, CTLA4-Ig, LFA-1), or altered peptide ligands have been shown capable of inducing immune tolerance in transplantation, autoimmunity and allergy. The aim of this research is to study E-Banking services applied in Syria International Islamic Bank }SIIB{ and how it impacted the bank’s profitability. Particularly, we are focusing on mobile banking and point of sale which constitute the most important and advance E-Banking services offered by SIIB. The research is narrowed down to evaluate ROA and ROE to represent the profitability indicators since they are considered the best and most used profitability indicators. The data for E-Banking is of descriptive nature and it was collected via a survey of 30 randomly drawn employees in E-Banking related departments. While the data for ROA and ROE was extracted from the financial statements of SIIB (2017-2020). Note that SIIB mobile banking was developed in 2018.
