Vehicle Propulsion Systems : Introduction to Modeling and Optimization ; 2nd ed.
Automobiles are responsible for a substantial part of the world's consumption of primary energy, mostly fossil liquid hydrocarbons. The reduction of the fuel consumption of these vehicles has become a top priority. Many ideas to reach that objective have been presented. In most cases these systems are more complex than the traditional approaches. For such complex systems a heuristic design approach fails. The only way to deal with this situation is to employ model-based methods. This text provides an introduction to the mathematical modeling and subsequent optimization of vehicle propulsion systems and their supervisory control algorithms.

Systems Biology : International Research and Development
Systems biology is defined for the purpose of this study as the understanding of biological network behaviors, and in particular their dynamic aspects, which requires the utilization of mathematical modeling tightly linked to experiment. This involves a variety of approaches, such as the identification and validation of networks, the creation of appropriate datasets, the development of tools for data acquisition and software development, and the use of modeling and simulation software in close linkage with experiment. All of these are discussed in this volume. Of course, the definition becomes ambiguous at the margins, but at the core is the focus on networks, which makes it clear that the goal is to understand the operation of the systems, rather than the component parts.
Systèmes multi-èchelles : Modélisation et simulation = Multi-scale systems : Modeling and simulation
Multiscale Systems is an introduction to the problem of multiscale systems from the perspective of the applied mathematician. It consists of a mosaic of examples whose only link is belonging to the very large family of problems arising from physics in the broadest sense, which present, for their modeling and simulation, this essential difficulty of containing within them very different time or space scales.
Substrate Noise Coupling in RFICs
The book reports modeling and simulation techniques for substrate noise coupling effects in RFICs and introduces isolation structures and design guides to mitigate such effects with the ultimate goal of enhancing the yield of RF and mixed signal SoCs . This is particularly critical when process feature sizes scale down to the nano meter range.
Structures Under Crash and Impact : Continuum Mechanics, Discretization and Experimental Characterization

Selected Topics in Cancer Modeling : Genesis, Evolution, Immune Competition, and Therapy
A major challenge in the modeling and simulation of tumor growth is the mathematical description of living matter, which is far more complex than a mathematical description of inert matter. One critical piece of this challenge is creating multiscale models that take into account subcellular, cellular, and macroscopic levels of cancer. The complexity of these different levels requires the development of new mathematical methods and ideas, which are examined in this work. Written by first-rate researchers in the field of mathematical biology, this collection of selected chapters offers a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art mathematical methods and tools for modeling and analyzing cancer phenomena.

The main objective of the Action is to enhance existing modeling and simulation tools and to develop new tools for research in emerging multi-service telecommuncation networks in the areas of model performance improvement, multilayer traffic modeling, and the important issue of evaluation and validation of the new modeling tools.
Pyomo — Optimization Modeling in Python
Illustrates the different techniques useful for formulating models, this text beautifully elucidates the breadth of modeling capabilities that are supported by Pyomo and its handling of complex real-world applications. In the third edition, much of the material has been reorganized, new examples have been added, and a new chapter has been added describing how modelers can improve the performance of their models. The authors have also modified their recommended method for importing Pyomo. A big change in this edition is the emphasis of concrete models, which provide fewer restrictions on the specification and use of Pyomo models.

New methods for analysis of big data such as financial markets, automobile traffics, epidemic spreading, world-trades and social media communications are provided to clarify complex interaction and distributions underlying in these social phenomena. Robustness and fragility of social systems are discussed based on agent models and complex network models. Techniques about high performance computers are introduced for simulation of complicated social phenomena.
Pharmacokinetic-Pharmacodynamic Modeling and Simulation
This book presents both the art and science behind pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling. Using a building-block approach, the author starts from linear and nonlinear models at the individual level and proceeds to develop more complex linear and nonlinear mixed effects models at the population level, with particular emphasis on showing the interrelationships between the various model types. The theory behind the methods are illustrated using real data drawn from the literature and from the author’s own experiences in drug development. Data are analyzed using a variety of software, including SAS, WinNonlin, SAAM II, and NONMEM. A key component of the book is to show how models are accepted and rejected, ultimately leading to a useful and informative model that can be utilized using computer simulation to answer "what-if" questions.
