Updates on caries management in the primary and permanent dentition

Provides the reader with the latest updates on caries management in primary and permanent dentition. This Special Issue contains articles presenting innovative approaches, high-quality clinical, epidemiological, and dental public health research, and translational research in the field of caries management. Focuses include aspects of preventive, non-invasive, minimally invasive, and operative dentistry in children and adults. Primarily, clinical trials are looking, for example, at the use of silver (diamine) fluoride. Interestingly, this product seems to be experiencing a renaissance, leading to an expanded treatment spectrum, especially in pediatric dentistry. Alternatively, non-clinical study types demonstrate the facets of current research in cariology that aim to produce a large body of evidence, such as systematic reviews, or focus on possible clinical implications, such as decision-making in caries management. As a result, readers with both scientific and clinical backgrounds can gain important recent insights into various aspects of cariology from this reprint.

Unifying the Software Process Spectrum ; International Software Process Workshop, SPW 2005, Beijing, China, May 25-27, 2005 Revised Selected Papers

This volume contains papers presented at SPW 2005, the Software Process Workshop held in Beijing, P. R. China, on May 25-27, 2005, and prepared for final publication. The theme of SPW2005 was “Unifying the Software Process Spectrum. ” Software process encompasses all the activities that aim at developing or evolving software products. The expanding role of software and information systems in the world has focused increasing attention on the need for assurances that software systems can be developed at acceptable speed and cost, on a predictable schedule, and in such a way that resulting systems are of acceptably high quality and can be evolved surely and rapidly as usage contexts change.

Tuning, Timbre, Spectrum, Scale

Focuses on perceptions ofconsonance and dissonance, and how these are dependent on timbre. This alsorelates to musical scale: certain timbres sound more consonant in some scalesthan others. Sensory consonance and the ability to measure it have importantimplications for the design of audio devices and for musical theory andanalysis. Applications include methods of adapting sounds for arbitrary scales, ways to specify scales for nonharmonic sounds, and techniques of soundmanipulation based on maximizing (or minimizing) consonance. Specialconsideration is given here to a new method of adaptive tuning that canautomatically adjust the tuning of a piece based its timbral character so as tominimize dissonance. Audio examples illustrating the ideas presented areprovided for free on the Springer Extras website (http://extras.springer.com).

Treating Trichotillomania : Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Hairpulling and Related Problems

Trichotillomania has been described in the literature for at least a hundred years, but has only in the past decade received serious clinical attention. Although now a "higher profile" disorder, there is still scant clinical information on trichotillomania. A full-length cognitive-behavioral treatment manual, Treating Trichotillomania (TTM) fills that need. Designing the book for maximum usefulness, authors Franklin and Tolin share their considerable expertise in treating body-focused repetitive behavior disorders (not only hair-pulling but skin-picking and nail-biting as well) in an accessible, clinically valid reference. Treating Trichotillomania carefully defines TTM, differentiating the disorder from other conditions such as OCD, reviewing the varied clinical forms it can take, and setting out its diagnostic criteria.

Trauma - An Engineering Analysis : With Medical Case Studies Investigation

The purpose of this book is to bring together experts from the medical and engineering fields in which trauma acts as a fulcrum in understanding the engineering approach to medical cases. The emphasis of this book is on the retrospective study of medical scenarios as seen from the engineering perspective. An in-depth study is required to ensure the accuracy of both medical and engineering data. Where static, dynamic, temperature and impact loads and velocities/accelerations are unknown; they are evaluated using the material properties and fracture geometry of case studies. From the analytical techniques, a prospective study would assist in predicting the outcome of post-trauma damage. Generally, the book covers a wide spectrum of trauma case studies and could be used in medico-legal test cases. The medical opinion can be translated into the engineering analysis there by validating or invalidating the total medical decisions.
