Multimedia Services in Intelligent Environments : Advanced Tools and Methodologies
This book presents a sample of recent research results in multimedia services. Besides the introductory chapter, this book includes fourteen additional chapters. Nine of these chapters cover various aspects of data processing in multimedia services in intelligent environments, such as storage, recognition and classification, transmission, information retrieval, and information securing. Four additional chapters present multimedia services in noise and hearing monitoring and measuring, augmented reality, automated lecture rooms and rights management and licensing. Finally, the last chapter is devoted to an intelligent recommender service in scientific digital libraries.
Mobile and Wireless Communications with Practical Use-Case Scenarios
While wireless technologies had a spectacular evolution over the past years, the present trend is to adopt a global heterogeneous network of shared standards that enables the provisioning of Quality of Service and Quality of Experience to the end-user. As computing moves increasingly into the everyday world, the importance of location and context knowledge grows. The range of contexts encountered while sitting at a desk working on a computer is very limited compared to the large variety of situations experienced away from the desktop. For computing to be relevant and useful in these situations, the computers must have knowledge of the user’s activity, resources, state of mind, and goals, i.e., the user’s context, of which location is an important indicator. This workshop was intended to present research aimed at sensing, inferring, and using location and context data in ways that help the user.
