Implementing Strategic Environmental Assessment
More countries are now using Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) than ever before. This timely and comprehensive Handbook describes the implementation of SEA in 18 countries around the world, as well as a critical analysis of different SEA methodologies. The Handbook starts by introducing key SEA principles and the legal requirements of the new European SEA Directive (which became law in 2004). It then describes the implementation of SEA in 11 European Union countries, as well as the USA, Canada and New Zealand. This is contrasted with SEA requirements of four developing countries. The Handbook explores public participation issues and the wide-range of SEA methodologies used in terms of resources (soils, water and biodiversity) and sectors of activity (transport, agriculture, waste management and industry). The Handbook concludes with a discussion on best practice, capacity building and the future of SEA.
Estuaries
Aspects of the biogeochemistry of estuaries from a variety of environments, from the tropics to the Arctic, are discussed. In most cases the courses of these rivers have been altered by dams or diversions; the results of these changes on the nature of the estuary are also discussed, where such data is available. In the case of the Tasmanian rivers, the estuary of the Huon, a largely untouched river, is contrasted with that of the Derwent, a river heavily influenced by industry. The future state of all of these estuaries may be a sensitive indicator of shifts in global weather patterns.

The availability of ultrasound contrast agents has introduced a new dimension in ultrasound examination with the possibility of real-time exploration of the kinetics of contrast enhancement of various lesions. The potential indications for these microbubbles affect almost all deep and superficial organs, but also the possibilities of pharmacological studies for neoangiogenesis or therapeutic guidance by physical methods. Finally, new applications are emerging in the field of targeted products and the transport of active ingredients. It seemed opportune to us to attempt to take stock of this changing world through intense collaboration between the various teams involved and recognized in this field, of which unfortunately, only some are represented here. We want this book to be a current reference point for contrast ultrasound, a point that will certainly require development in the coming years. He strongly demonstrates that ultrasound can play a very important role in modern diagnostic and therapeutic imaging because of their diagnostic performance but also because of their non-invasive nature. Advanced Magnetic Nanostructures is devoted to the fabrication, characterization, experimental investigation, theoretical understanding, and utilization of advanced magnetic nanostructures. Focus is on various types of 'bottom-up' and 'top-down' artificial nanostructures, as contrasted to naturally occurring magnetic nanostructures, such as iron-oxide inclusions in magnetic rocks, and to structures such as perfect thin films.
