The future project "Industry 4.0", which represents a central element of the high-tech strategy of the federal government, aims at the computerization of the classic industries, such as e.g. B. industrial production. On the way to the Internet of Things, the merging of the virtual with the physical world to form cyber-physical systems and the resulting possible merging of technical processes with business processes should lead Germany as a production location into a new era. The technology program "Autonomics for Industry 4.0" of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) is part of the future project "Industry 4.0". This volume was created in the context of this programme. The book gives an overview of possible ways into the future of work under the conditions of autonomy and Industry 4.0. Key challenges, opportunities and risks are identified from the point of view of research, industry and the social partners. Exemplary design solutions from the areas of production and automation technology, robotics, virtual engineering, agricultural machinery and learning factories illustrate the trends presented in the book.

Intelligence and knowledge manifest in the system's behavior. 'Intelligence' is identified as the necessary framework that realizes continuous adaptation through the ongoing development and incorporation of control procedures and building blocks. The content that fills this framework is the 'Enterprise Knowledge'. The rigid framework of business processes has to be replaced by a project framework, employees have to be integrated as 'Knowledge Workers' and IT systems have to offer advanced structural and organizational properties to facilitate declarative processing.
Supply Chain Management on Demand : Strategies and Technologies, Applications
New techniques and practices for highly efficient supply chain management are being made possible by the rapid progress in information and communication technologies, laying the foundation for a new wave of applications. Connectivity and the integration of business processes have laid the foundations for an increased visibility over the entire supply chain. Software technologies like portals, data warehouses, reporting systems, and on-line analytical processing (OLAP) are providing the necessary information and visibility for the decision makers. The next step is to assist the decision maker to quickly and optimally respond to unexpected situations. Smart Business Networks
A number of scientists - from management and strategy, information systems, engineering and telecommunications - gathered at the Vanenburg castle in the Netherlands to discuss a novel concept: Smart Business Networks. They see the future as a developing web of people, organisations and IT/networking infrastructures, bound together in dynamic, unpredictable ways, creating smart outcomes from quickly (re-)configuring links between actors. They posed the question: What should be done to make the outcomes of such a network 'smart' that is just a little better than that of your competitor? More agile, with less pain, with more return to all the members of the network, now and over time? The answer was that we observe the emergence of "business operating systems" that run business processes on different organisational platforms while sharing elements of their infrastructures. Business processes become portable: The end-to-end management of different processes running across different organisations in many different forms becomes possible, while leaving to each actor the ultimate power of choosing its partners in different constellations. This book presents the outcomes of an energizing discussion of this emerging new direction in management science.

Obstructions in Security-Aware Business Processes : Analysis, Detection, and Handling
This book explores the dilemma-like stalemate between security and regulatory compliance in business processes on the one hand and business continuity and governance on the other. The growing number of regulations, e.g., on information security, data protection, or privacy, implemented in increasingly digitized businesses can have an obstructive effect on the automated execution of business processes. Such security-related obstructions can particularly occur when an access control-based implementation of regulations blocks the execution of business processes. By handling obstructions, security in business processes is supposed to be improved. For this, the book presents a framework that allows the comprehensive analysis, detection, and handling of obstructions in a security-sensitive way. Thereby, methods based on common organizational security policies, process models, and logs are proposed. The Petri net-based modeling and related semantic and language-based research, as well as the analysis of event data and machine learning methods finally lead to the development of algorithms and experiments that can detect and resolve obstructions and are reproducible with the provided software.
