Pensionomics : On the Role of PAYGO in Pension Portfolios
Pensionomics puts forward a portfolio perspective on the combination of funded and unfunded pension arrangements. In a second-best type argument it is formally shown that a Pay-As-You-Go pension system can substitute the tradability of human capital: if risk-averse investors were able to directly invest into the present value of future labour income, they would allocate their pension portfolios in both human and physical capital. While this ideal form of diversification can not be implemented due to the imperfection of capital markets, one can design a typical Pay-As-You-Go system in such a way that it allows for the same intertemporal consumption allocations as the first-best solution. This replication works regardless of the demographic development.Therefore, PAYGO should play a key role in optimising the risk-return combinations for old-age savings.

On February 26–27, 2004, the 3rd International Workshop on Peer-to-Peer S- tems (IPTPS 2004) brought researchers and practitioners together to discuss the latest developments in peer-to-peer technologies, applications, and systems. As the third workshop in the series, IPTPS 2004 continued the success of the previous workshops in pioneering the state of the art in peer-to-peer systems and identifying key research challenges in the area. The workshop received 145 submissions in the form of ?ve-page position papers. As with previous workshops, submissions went through two rounds of reviews by an international program committee of 14 experts from industry and academia.In the ?rst round eachsubmission receivedtwo reviews.In the second round we focused our attention on submissions with either positive reviews, or with reviews that expressed substantially di?erent opinions. In addition to the technical merit, the reviewing process emphasized originality and the potential of the submission to lead to interesting discussions during the workshop.

Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) are the most common and most significant chronic disorders in Pediatric Gastroenterology. The onset of Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis in the first two decades of life presents a number of diagnostic and therapeutic challenges that are unique to pediatric patients. Although the studies available for pediatric diagnosis have improved dramatically in the past three decades, the improvement in technology alone cannot account for the increased frequency of IBD recognized in early childhood. While therapy for older patients has improved dramatically with the use of immunomodulators and the development of exciting biologic strategies, rarely if ever have comprehensive studies of the pharmacokinetics, safety and efficacy of any of the IBD medications been performed in pediatric patients. A number of excellent medications are not available in liquid preparations that can be swallowed by children, and others, such as timed-release formulations, are developed for delivery to an adult gastrointestinal tract. It is unfortunate that the care we provide to children is often an extrapolation of what is known about and available for adults with IBD. Pediatric patients with IBD face a number of unique challenges.
