This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 17th International Symposium on Algorithms and Computation, ISAAC 2006, held in Kolkata, India in December 2006. The 73 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 255 submissions. The papers are organized in topical sections on algorithms and data structures, online algorithms, approximation algorithm, graphs, computational geometry, computational complexity, network, optimization and biology, combinatorial optimization and quantum computing, as well as distributed computing and cryptography.

The 5th International Conference on Adhoc, Mobile and Wireless Networks (Adhoc-Now 2006) was held during August 17–19, 2006, in Ottawa, Canada. The ?rst four conferences in this series were held in Toronto (2002), Montreal (2003), Vancouver (2004) and Cancun (2005), respectively. The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for researchers from academia/industry and practitioners to meet and exchange ideas regarding recent developments in the areas of ad hoc wireless networks. Shortly after its inauguration in 1985 the Birla Science Centre, Hyderabad, India, started a series of lectures by Nobel Laureates and other scientists of international renown, usually in Physics and Astronomy, sometimes in Life Sciences and Chemistry. The present collection mostly consists of lectures on frontier topics. The transcript of each lecture is preceded by a short biography of the Nobel Laureate/Scientist in question.
