NETWORKING 2006 : Networking technologies, services, protocols ; performance of computer and communication networks ; Mobile and wireless communications systems ; 5th International IFIP-TC6 Networking Conference, Coimbra, Portugal, May 15-19, 2006, Proceedings

Networking 2006 was organized by the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and it was the fifth event in a series of International Conferences on Networking sponsored by the IFIP Technical Committee on Communication Systems (TC 6). Previous events were held in Paris (France) in 2000, Pisa (Italy) in 2002, Athens (Greece) in 2004, and Waterloo (Canada) in 2005. Networking 2006 brought together active and proficient members of the networking community, from both academia and industry, thus contributing to scientific, strategic, and practical advances in the broad and fast-evolving field of communications. The conference comprised highly technical sessions organized thematically, keynote talks, tutorials offered by experts, as well as workshops and panel discussions on topical themes. Plenary sessions with keynote talks opened the daily sessions, which covered Networking Technologies, Services and Protocols, Performance of Computer and Communication Networks, and Mobile and Wireless Communications Systems.

In recent years, there has been significant interest and advances in developing systematic techniques to synthesize interactive and reconfigurable distributed sensing systems that are capable of performing effective inferencing and control tasks under overall resource constraints. Networked RFID Systems and Lightweight Cryptography : Raising Barriers to Product Counterfeiting

This book considers the methods used by illicit manufactures and traders to introduce counterfeit goods into the supply chain, the extent of their success, the various barriers that may be brought against their actions, and the effectiveness of those barriers. The new field of lightweight cryptography is described in the context of using RFID systems in the fight against counterfeit products, its cost effectiveness is examined and feasible approaches to its deployment are described. Research problems and likely avenues for solutions are also presented to guide a global effort in anti-counterfeiting.

Networked Embedded Sensing and Control ; Workshop NESC'05 : University of Notre Dame, USA, October 2005 Proceedings

Recent technological developments in sensing, communications, control and computation have created an emerging class of complex systems hereon called networked embedded systems. Network Classification For Traffic Management : Anomaly detection, feature selection, clustering and classification

Investigates network traffic classification solutions by proposing transport-layer methods to achieve better run and operated enterprise-scale networks. With the massive increase of data and traffic on the Internet within the 5G, IoT and smart cities frameworks, current network classification and analysis techniques are falling short. Novel approaches using machine learning algorithms are needed to cope with and manage real-world network traffic, including supervised, semi-supervised, and unsupervised classification techniques. Accurate and effective classification of network traffic will lead to better quality of service and more secure and manageable networks. Investigates network traffic classification solutions by proposing transport-layer methods to achieve better run and operated enterprise-scale networks. The authors explore novel methods for enhancing network statistics at the transport layer, helping to identify optimal feature selection through a global optimization approach and providing automatic labelling for raw traffic through a SemTra framework to maintain provable privacy on information disclosure properties.
