Advanced environments, tools, and applications for cluster computing ; NATO Advanced Research Workshop, IWCC 2001, Mangalia, Romania, September 1-6, 2001. Revised Papers
Started by small group of well known scientists with the aim of sharing knowledge, experiences, and results on all aspects of cluster computing, the initiative of a workshop on cluster computing received more attention after IFIP WG 10.3 and IEEE Romania Section accepted our request for sponsorship. Moreover, the application for a NATO ARW grant was successful, leading to a greater interest in the workshop. In this respect, we have to say that we chose Romania in order to attract scientists from Central and Eastern European countries and improve the cooperation in the region, in the field of cluster computing. We had an extremely short time to organize the event, but many people joined us and enthusiastically contributed to the process. The success of the workshop is wholly due to the hard work of the organizing committee, members of the program committee, key speakers, speakers from industry, and authors of accepted papers.

This volume comprises the proceedings of the 4th Conference on Advanced En-cryption Standard, ‘AES — State of the Crypto Analysis,’ which was held inBonn, Germany, 2004.The conference followed a series of events organized by the US National In-stitute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in order to hold an internationalcompetition to decide on an algorithm to serve as the Advanced EncryptionStandard (AES). In 1998, at the first AES conference (AES 1), 15 different algo-rithms were presented, discussed, reviewed and verified. After a further conferencedevoted to verification, testing and examination of the candidate algorithms inorder to prove their performance and security, one winning algorithm remained.The encryption scheme Rijndael, designed by the Belgian cryptographers JoanDaemen and Vincent Rijmen, was selected in 2000 to become the successor tothe famous DES (Data Encryption Standard) and it is now the Advanced En-cryption Standard.
Advanced chemical biology : chemical dissection and reprogramming of biological systems
Organized around the central dogma of life, progressing from genes to proteins and higher-order cellular structures, including core application areas such as imaging, chemical genetics, activity-based protein profiling, and natural product discovery and biosynthesis. Advanced topics and applications in, e. g., microbiology, developmental biology, and neurobiology, are covered in separate sections.
Advanced BDD Optimization
This book gives a modern presentation of the established as well as of recent concepts. Latest results in BDD optimization are given, c- ering di?erent aspects of paths in BDDs and the use of e?cient lower bounds during optimization. The presented algorithms include Branch ? and Bound and the generic A -algorithm as e?cient techniques to - plore large search spaces. ? The A -algorithm originates from Arti?cial Intelligence (AI), and the EDA community has been unaware of this concept for a long time. Re- ? cently, the A -algorithm has been introduced as a new paradigm to explore design spaces in VLSI CAD. Besides AI search techniques, the book also discusses the relation to another ?eld of activity bordered to VLSI CAD and BDD optimization: the clausal representation as a SAT problem.

Adaptive Scalarization Methods in Multiobjective Optimization
This book presents new adaptive solution methods for multiobjective optimization problems based on parameter dependent scalarizations. With the help of sensitivity results an adaptive parameter control is developed so that high-quality approximations of the efficient set are generated. These examinations are based on a general scalarization approach for arbitrary partial orderings defined by a closed pointed convex cone in the objective space. The application of the results to many other well-known scalarization methods is also presented. Background material of multiobjective optimization and scalarization approaches is concisely summarized at the beginning. The effectiveness of these new methods is demonstrated by test problems and a recent problem in intensity-modulated radiotherapy. The book concludes with a further application: a procedure for solving multiobjective bilevel optimization problems.
Adaptive Low-Power Circuits for Wireless Communications
Adaptive radio transceivers require a comprehensive theoretical framework in order to optimize their performance. Adaptive Low-Power Circuits for Wireless Communications provides this framework with a discussion of joint optimization of Noise Figure and Input Intercept Point in receiver systems. Original techniques to optimize voltage controlled oscillators and low-noise amplifiers to minimize their power consumption while maintaining adequate system performance are also provided. The experimental results presented at the end of the book confirm the utility of the proposed techniques.

Actin-Binding Proteins and Disease

Acoustic MIMO Signal Processing
Telecommunication systems and human-machine interfaces start employing multiple microphones and loudspeakers in order to make conversations and interactions more lifelike, hence more efficient. This development gives rise to a variety of acoustic signal processing problems under multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) scenarios, encompassing distant speech acquisition, sound source localization and tracking, echo and noise control, source separation and speech dereverberation, and many others. The last decade has witnessed a growing interest in exploring these problems, but there has been little effort to develop a theory to have all these problems investigated in a unified framework. This unique book attempts to fill the gap.

Acne vulgaris in Syria : Epidemiology and treatment
Acne vulgaris, a chronic inflammatory disorder of the pilosebaceous unit, exerts significant physical and psychosocial burdens among adolescents. Despite anecdotal evidence of high prevalence in Syria, systematic epidemiological and treatment data are scarce, highlighting the need for local investigation. This study quantifies acne prevalence and severity among Syrian youths, evaluates treatment patterns and preventive practices, identifies patient-perceived triggers and advere effects, assesses psychosocial impacts, and synthesizes dermatologist recommendations to optimize acne management strategies within the Syrian healthcare context.
Achieving the Paris Climate Agreement goals ; Part 2 : Science-based target setting for the finance industry — Net-Zero Sectoral 1.5˚C pathways for real economy sectors
Provides an in-depth analysis of industry sectors globally, and its purpose is to present emission reduction targets in 5-year steps (2025 to 2050) for the main twelve finance sectors per the Global Industry Classification System. This scientific analysis aims to support the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment initiative to give sustainability guidance for the global finance industry. The industry sector pathways presented here are based on the latest global and regional 100% renewable energy and non-energy greenhouse gas Representative Concentration Pathways in order to keep climate change significantly under +1.5 C and thereby achieve the Paris Climate Agreement goals. The heart of this book is three chapters presenting the results of industry scenario modelling. These chapters cover twelve industry and service sectors as well as transportation and buildings. Acceptance- and Mindfulness-Based Approaches to Anxiety : Conceptualization and Treatment
Chapter authors clearly place mindfulness and acceptance into the clinical lexicon, establishing links with established traditions, including emotion theory and experiential therapy. In addition, separate chapters discuss specific anxiety disorders, the current state of treatment for each, and practical ways of integrating acceptance and mindfulness approaches into therapy.

Seduced by the idea of commenting on the clinical experience they have acquired during their career, the authors have deliberately approached their specialty by describing the symptoms that give the chapters their titles. They nevertheless described the differential diagnoses, the diseases involved and the treatments. After a chapter devoted to the examination of the patient, including the detours of the interrogation, back pain or scrotal pain are analyzed. The authors then turned to voiding disorders and their causes. The peculiarities of hematuria, depending on their level of origin, are described and commented on. The semiology of tumor masses is carefully detailed and, conversely, the problem of prostate cancer screening by PSA is dealt with in a separate chapter. Erectile dysfunction and penile diseases are the last chapters. In the line of the “Clinical approach” collection, this manual is easy to consult thanks to a detailed index, easy to understand because it is written in clear language and, moreover, well illustrated (21 diagrams and 2 tables). In this little book, the authors have approached urology from a perspective close to how patients feel.
A Time for Metabolism and Hormones
Recent years have seen spectacular advances in the field of circadian biology. These have attracted the interest of researchers in many fields, including endocrinology, neurosciences, cancer, and behavior. By integrating a circadian view within the fields of endocrinology and metabolism, researchers will be able to reveal many, yet-unsuspected aspects of how organisms cope with changes in the environment and subsequent control of homeostasis. A Study about Prevalence of Thalassemia Complications in Syrian Patients
Inherited haemoglobin disorders, including thalassemia and sickle-cell disease, are the most common monogenic diseases worldwide. Several clinical forms of α-thalassemia and β-thalassemia, including the co-inheritance of β-thalassemia with haemoglobin E resulting in haemoglobin E/β-thalassemia, have been described. The disease hallmarks include imbalance in the α/β-globin chain ratio, ineffective erythropoiesis, chronic hemolytic anemia, compensatory hemopoietin expansion, hypercoagulability, and increased intestinal iron absorption. The complications of iron overload, arising from transfusions that represent the basis of disease management in most patients with severe thalassemia. The mature Hb molecule is a tetramer composed of 2 a-globin and 2 b-globin polypeptides, which assemble, along with a heme prosthetic group, to form the complete molecule.
A Stakeholder Rationale for Risk Management : Implications for Corporate Finance Decisions
Ordinarily, only the interests of shareholders, debtholders, and corporate management are taken into account when analyzing corporate financial decisions while the interests of non-financial stakeholders are often neglected. Gregor Gossy develops a so-called stakeholder rationale for risk management arguing that firms which are more dependent on implicit claims from their non-financial stakeholders, such as customers, suppliers, and employees, prefer conservative financial policies. In order to perform panel data analyses of the determinants of corporate financial decisions, the author uses data from Austrian and German industrial companies. He shows that variables for a firm’s most important non-financial stakeholders explain the firm’s capital structure and cash holding decisions. His findings suggest that a firm’s choice of accounting standards have a moderating effect on the determinants of corporate finance decisions.
