Geometric Group Theory ; Geneva and Barcelona Conferences
This volume assembles research papers in geometric and combinatorial group theory. This wide area may be defined as the study of those groups that are defined by their action on a combinatorial or geometric object, in the spirit of Klein’s programme.The contributions range over a wide spectrum: limit groups, groups associated with equations, with cellular automata, their structure as metric objects, their decomposition, etc. Their common denominator is the language of group theory, used to express and solve problems ranging from geometry to logic.

Geometric Aspects of Functional Analysis : Israel Seminar 2004-2005
Most of the papers deal with different aspects of the Asymptotic Geometric Analysis, ranging from classical topics in the geometry of convex bodies, to inequalities involving volumes of such bodies or, more generally, log-concave measures, to the study of sections or projections of convex bodies. In many of the papers Probability Theory plays an important role; in some limit laws for measures associated with convex bodies, resembling Central Limit Theorems, are derive and in others probabilistic tools are used extensively. There are also papers on related subjects, including a survey on the behavior of the largest eigenvalue of random matrices and some topics in Number Theory.
Geometric Algebra for Computer Graphics
The first five chapters review the algebras of real numbers, complex numbers, vectors, and quaternions and their associated axioms, together with the geometric conventions employed in analytical geometry. As well as putting geometric algebra into its historical context, John Vince provides chapters on Grassmann’s outer product and Clifford’s geometric product, followed by the application of geometric algebra to reflections, rotations, lines, planes and their intersection. The conformal model is also covered, where a 5D Minkowski space provides an unusual platform for unifying the transforms associated with 3D Euclidean space.
Geomagnetics for aeronautical safety : A case study in and around the Balkans
Flying safely in aircraft implies the use of navigation instruments. Among them, the magnetic compass is still a first choice for orientation and it is compulsory in all aircraft. In our increasingly sophisticated but fragile world of global navigation systems and gyroscopic sensors, the compass is especially useful as a back-up: it is highly reliable and likely to survive in harsh electromagnetic aggressions or when all power supplies fail. This book examines in detail how the science of geomagnetism is able to promote correct use of the magnetic compass for navigation. A selected group of specialists met in Ohrid, Macedonia to expose their approaches to the question. Using techniques from Geology, Instrument science, Magnetism, Chaos theory and Potential Fields applied to the Balkan region and surroundings, they put together a roadmap to fully tackle the issue of measurement, analysis, mapping and forecasting the magnetic declination in support of aeronautical safety.
Geology and Ecosystems
This book includes an analysis of the relationship between the different geological, hydrochemical, hydrogeological and engineering-geological processes and the processes within surface ecosystems. The analysis of specific interactions between the lithosphere and biosphere provides an integrated concept of the role of the geological environment in the evolution of the biosphere. The practical significance of the book is reflected by the analysis of modern engineering activity associated with the mining of minerals, excessive groundwater withdrawal, disposal of industrial and domestic wastes (including radioactive wastes) and their impacts on all components of the environment. Geographic Hypermedia : Concepts and Systems
This book introduces a new paradigm, Geographic Hypermedia, which emerges from the convergence of Geographic Information Science and - permedia technology. Both GI Science and hypermedia have been rapidly evolving fields. The initial idea of Geographic Hypermedia was born in 2004 when the editors had been invited to organize a workshop in conju- tion with the ‘Hypertext’ conference organized annually by the Special - terest Group of the Association for Computing Machinery. The purpose of the workshop was to examine how hypermedia concepts and tools may be applied in geographical domains. The workshop was eventually held in conjunction with the Maps and the Internet Commission of the International Cartographic Association at the annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers in Denver, Colorado, in April 2005. The Denver workshop was a successful event, bringing together mul- disciplinary researchers and professionals in the area of Geographic - permedia.

Genomic Imprinting
Genomic imprinting refers to a recently discovered phenomenon in which the expression pattern of an allele depends on whether that allele was inherited from the mother or the father. This difference in expression strategy correlates with differences in the epigenetic state of the two alleles. The goal of this book is neither to provide a basic introduction to imprinting, nor to provide a comprehensive survey of the current state of the field (which would necessarily span multiple books). Rather, the book covers on some of the more recent advances, with the goal of drawing attention to some of the emerging subtleties and complexities associated with imprinted genes.
Genome instability in cancer development
Research over the past decades has firmly established the genetic basis of cancer. In particular, studies on animal tumour viruses and chromosome rearrangements in human tumours have concurred to identify so-called ‘proto-oncogenes’ and ‘tumour suppressor genes’, whose deregulation promotes carcinogenesis. These important findings not only explain the occurrence of certain hereditary tumours, but they also set the stage for the development of anti-cancer drugs that specifically target activated oncogenes.

All 86 papers, including 5 papers for tool demonstrations, were rigorously reviewed by 17 highly quali?ed Program Committee members. The members of the Program Committee ?rst provided in-depth individual reviews of the s- mitted papers, and then debated the merits of the papers through an extended electronicProgramCommitteemeeting.After much(friendly) argument,25r- ular papers and 2 tool demonstration papers were selected for publication. The ProgramCommittee provided extensive technical feedback to the authors of the submittedpapers.Theconferenceprogramwascomplementedwiththreeinvited talks, three extended tutorials, and three all-day workshops.

Generative adversarial text to image synthesis
Synthesizing high-quality images from text descriptions is a challenging problem in computer vision and has many practical applications. Samples generated by existing text-to-image approaches can roughly reflect the meaning of the given descriptions, but they fail to contain necessary details and vivid object parts. In order to make the project more specialized, it was approved that the project be dedicated to fashion image generation, we present an effective approach for generating new clothing through generative adversarial learning. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) successfully show the capability of synthesizing sharper images compared to other generative models.

Let us state precisely what we mean by a geometric quantity. Consider a subset N S of points of the N-dimensional Euclidean space E , endowed with its standard N scalar product. It is important to point out that the property of being geometric depends on the chosen group. Treats the topic of gender and demographic behaviour during the life course in a comprehensive fashion. It covers a lot of ground, from the age at first intercourse over union formation and dissolution, fertility, migration, ageing, to excess male mortality, comparing genders behaviour and its determinants. It reports new findings of empirical research, mostly based on data from a number of European countries, making a good use of the Family and Fertility surveys and other international data base.
Gaming, simulations and society : Research scope and perspective
The Japan Association of Simulation & Gaming (JASAG) and the Science Council of Japan (SCJ) hosted ISAGA 2003, the 34th annual conference of the International Simulation and Gaming Association (ISAGA), at Kazusa Akademia Park in Kisarazu, Japan,August 25–29, 2003. About 450 participants and guests attended,with 330 from Japan and 101 from 34 other countries. The number of submitted papers and reports exceeded 210, and in addition, many poster presentations and experiential sessions were held. This book is made up of 30 papers submitted to ISAGA 2003 and provides a good example of the diverse scope and standard of research achieved in simu- tion and gaming today.The theme of ISAGA 2003 was “Social Contributions and Responsibilities of Simulation and Gaming.”
Galling Arthropods and Their Associates ; Ecology and Evolution
The book addresses recent developments in the ecology, evolution, systematics, physiology, and biodiversity of gall-inducing arthropods, with individual contri butions ranging in scope from detailed descriptions to profoundly synthetic stud ies. One underlying theme of the book is the various impacts of gall induction that indirectly affect insect communities on the host plant. The other important contri bution is the highly intricate and dynamic interactions between galling arthropods and their uniquely specialized host plants. Included also are chapters that discuss biodiversity and distribution patterns of gall-inducing arthropods, and biological control of invasive gall-inducing arthropods and of invasive trees. We believe that this book makes an important contribution to the knowledge of galling arthropods and their associates and to the development of robust, general principles of the ecology and evolution of these organisms.
Fuzzy Probability and Statistics
This book combines material from our previous books FP (Fuzzy Probabilities: New Approach and Applications,Physica-Verlag, 2003) and FS (Fuzzy Statistics, Springer, 2004), plus has about one third new results. From FP we have material on basic fuzzy probability, discrete (fuzzy Poisson,binomial) and continuous (uniform, normal, exponential) fuzzy random variables. From FS we included chapters on fuzzy estimation and fuzzy hypothesis testing related to means, variances, proportions, correlation and regression. New material includes fuzzy estimators for arrival and service rates, and the uniform distribution, with applications in fuzzy queuing theory. Also, new to this book, is three chapters on fuzzy maximum entropy (imprecise side conditions) estimators producing fuzzy distributions and crisp discrete/continuous distributions.
