Advances in Integrated Soil Fertility Research in sub-Saharan Africa : Challenges and Opportunities
Food insecurity is a central concern and a fundamental challenge for human welfare and economic growth in Africa. Low agricultural production, results in low incomes, poor nutrition, vulnerability to risks and lack of empowerment. Land degradation and soil fertility depletion are considered the major threats to food security and natural resource conservation in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Investments in technology, policy and institutional reforms are needed to increase agricultural productivity to ensure food security and sustained national economies. Past research has generated numerous soil fertility management technologies which if adopted could propel the African continent out of the poverty trap. However, these technologies have had little, if any, impact due to low adoption by the smallholder farmers.
Advances in Integrated Design and Manufacturing in Mechanical Engineering
This book presents a selection of papers related to the fifth edition of book further to the International Conference on Integrated Design and Manufacturing in Mechanical Engineering. This Conference has been organized within the framework of the activities of the AIP-PRIMECA network whose main scientific field is Integrated Design applied to both Mechanical Engineering and Productics. This network isorganized along the lines of a joint project: the evolution, in the field of training of Integrated Design in Mechanics and Productics, in quite close connection with the ever changing industrial needs over the past 20 years. It is in charge of promoting both exchanges of experience and know-how capitalisation. It has a paramount mission to fulfil, be it in the field of initial and continuous education, technological transfer and knowledge dissemination through strong links with research labs.

The main goal of the conference is to bring together researchers from all around the world working in di?erent areas of information systems to share new ideas and represent their latest results. This time we received 120 submissions from 27 countries.The Program Committee selected 38 papers for presentation at the conference.

Advances in Information and Computer Security ; 1st International Workshop on Security, IWSEC 2006, Kyoto, Japan, October 23-24, 2006, Proceedings
this year in Kyoto and to publish the proceedings as a volume of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. The workshop was our ?rst trial in that two major academic society groups on security in Japan, viz. ISEC and CSEC, jointly organized it; ISEC is a te- nical group on information security of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), and CSEC is a special interest group on computer security of the Information Processing Society of Japan (IPSJ). It was Ryoichi Sasaki, the former head of CSEC, who proposed holding such an international workshop in Japan for the ?rst time, two years ago. The two groups supported his idea and started organizing the workshop. CSEC has its annual domestic symposium, the Computer Security Symposium (CSS), in - tober for three days, and we decided to organize the workshop prior to CSS this year.
Advances in image enhancement
In the era of the internet of things, images have played important roles in human–computer interactions, and with the arrival of big data technology, people have higher requirements regarding image quality, especially for images collected in dark light. This can be addressed through the development of camera hardware quality, i.e., the resolution and exposure time of cameras, which may require high computational costs. As an alternative, image enhancement techniques can exact salient features to improve the quality of captured images according to the differences in diverse features, although they suffer from some challenges, i.e., a low contrast, artifacts, and overexposure, thus making it decidedly necessary to determine how to use advanced image enhancement techniques.
