Full-Chip Nanometer Routing Techniques

From a manufacturability standpoint, nanometer routers must explicitly deal with the ever increasing design complexity, and be capable of adapting to the constraint requirements of timing, signal integrity, process antenna effect, and new interconnect architecture such as X-architecture. In the nanometer era, we must look into new-generation routing technologies that combine high performance and capacity with the integration of congestion, timing, SI prevention, and DFM algorithms as the best means of getting to design closure quickly. In this book, we present a novel multilevel full-chip router, namely mSIGMA for SIGnal-integrity and MAnufacturability optimization. And these routing technologies will ensure faster time-to-market and time-to-profitability

Fuchsian Reduction : Applications to Geometry, Cosmology, and Mathematical Physics

Fuchsian reduction is a method for representing solutions of nonlinear PDEs near singularities. The technique has multiple applications including soliton theory, Einstein's equations and cosmology, stellar models, laser collapse, conformal geometry and combustion. Developed in the 1990s for semilinear wave equations, Fuchsian reduction research has grown in response to those problems in pure and applied mathematics where numerical computations fail.

Frontiers of Optical Spectroscopy ; Investigating Extreme Physical Conditions with Advanced Optical Techniques

Advanced spectroscopic techniques allow the probing of very small systems and very fast phenomena, conditions that can be considered "extreme" at the present status of our experimentation and knowledge. Quantum dots, nanocrystals and single molecules are examples of the former and events on the femtosecond scale examples of the latter. The purpose of this book is to examine the realm of phenomena of such extreme type and the techniques that permit their investigations. Each author has developed a coherent section of the program starting at a somewhat fundamental level and ultimately reaching the frontier of knowledge in the field in a systematic and didactic fashion. The formal lectures are complemented by additional seminars.

Frontiers in Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics

The basic theory of matter on the nanoscale is quantum mechanics and the application of quantum mechanics to the study of the many-body problem in molecules and materials is a rapidly developing field of research. Frontiers in Quantum Systems in Chemistry and Physics defines the leading edge; hence it describes the new theoretical developments available to a wider audience and presents theories which provide, for example, new insights into the structure of increasing complex molecular systems or molecules in a variety of environments. New computational techniques and practices are accessed, exploiting the wide range of equipment available to the researcher from “leadership” class supercomputers to distributed workstations and the internet.

Frontiers in Magnetic Materials

Frontiers in Magnetic Materials focuses on the current achievements and state-of-the-art advancements in magnetic materials. Several lines of development- High-Tc Superconductivity, Nanotechnology and refined experimental techniques among them – raised knowledge and interest in magnetic materials remarkably. The book comprises 24 chapters on the most relevant topics written by renowned international experts in the field. It is of central interest to researchers and specialists in Physics and Materials Science, both in academic and industrial research, as well as advanced students.

Frontiers in Hardware Security and Trust : Theory, design and practice

The footprint and power constraints imposed on internet-of-things end-points, smart sensors, mobile and ad hoc network devices make traditional and software based cryptographic solutions that require a general-purpose processor increasingly unfeasible. The fact that security is not the primary functionality of these devices means that only a small portion of their limited processing power and storage is available for security, driving the need for alternative security solutions. Hardware security - including hardware obfuscation, hardware security primitives, side-channel attacks and so on - is therefore becoming an increasingly active research area in both academia and industry.

Frontiers in Computing Technologies for Manufacturing Applications

Frontiers in Computing Technologies for Manufacturing Applications presents an overview of the state-of-the-art intelligent computing in manufacturing. Modeling, data processing, algorithms and computational analysis of difficult problems found in advanced manufacturing are discussed. It is the first book to bring together combinatorial optimization, information systems and fault diagnosis and monitoring in a consistent manner. Techniques are presented in order to aid decision makers needing to consider multiple, conflicting objectives in their decision processes. In particular, the use of metaheuristic optimization techniques for multi-objective problems is discussed. Readers will learn about computational technologies that can improve the performance of manufacturing systems ranging from manufacturing equipment to supply chains.

Frontiers in Chemical Sensors : Novel Principles and Techniques

With their similarity to the organs of the most advanced creatures that inhabit the Earth, sensors are regarded as being the “senses of electronics”: arti?cial eyes and ears that are capable of seeing and hearing beyond the range of - man perception; electronic noses and tongues that can recognise odours and ?avours without a lifetime training; touch that is able not only to feel the texture and temperature of the materials but even to discern their chemical compo- tion. Among the world of chemical sensors, optical devices (sometimes termed “optodes”, from the Greek “the optical way”) have reached a prominent place in those areas where the features of light and of the light-matter interaction show their advantage: contactless or long-distance interrogation, detection sensitivity, analyte selectivity, absence of electrical interference or risks, and lack of analyte consumption,

From Hahn-Banach to Monotonicity

In this new edition of LNM 1693 the essential idea is to reduce questions on monotone multifunctions to questions on convex functions. However, rather than using a “big convexification” of the graph of the multifunction and the “minimax technique”for proving the existence of linear functionals satisfying certain conditions, the Fitzpatrick function is used. The journey begins with a generalization of the Hahn-Banach theorem uniting classical functional analysis, minimax theory, Lagrange multiplier theory and convex analysis and culminates in a survey of current results on monotone multifunctions on a Banach space.

From Gestalt Theory to Image Analysis : A Probabilistic Approach

This book introduces the reader to a recent theory in Computer Vision yielding elementary techniques to analyse digital images. These techniques are inspired from and are a mathematical formalization of the Gestalt theory. Gestalt theory, which had never been formalized is a rigorous realm of vision psychology developped between 1923 and 1975. From the mathematical viewpoint the closest field to it is stochastic geometry, involving basic probability and statistics, in the context of image analysis.

From Fossils to Astrobiology : Records of Life on Earth and Search for Extraterrestrial Biosignatures

From Fossils to Astrobiology reviews developments in paleontology and geobiology that relate to the rapidly-developing field of Astrobiology, the study of life in the Universe. Many traditional areas of scientific study, including astronomy, chemistry and planetary science, contribute to Astrobiology, but the study of the record of life on planet Earth is critical in guiding investigations in the rest of the cosmos. In this varied book, expert scientists from 15 countries present peer-reviewed, stimulating reviews of paleontological and astrobiological studies. The overviews of established and emerging techniques for studying modern and ancient microorganisms on Earth and beyond, will be valuable guides to evaluating biosignatures which could be found in the extraterrestrial surface or subsurface within the Solar System and beyond.
