The 5th International Conference on Adhoc, Mobile and Wireless Networks (Adhoc-Now 2006) was held during August 17–19, 2006, in Ottawa, Canada. The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for researchers from academia/industry and practitioners to meet and exchange ideas regarding recent developments in the areas of ad hoc wireless networks. We received more than 170 papers for the conference submitted by authors from the following 25 countries: Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Greece, India, Iran, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Norway,Poland, Spain, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Turkey, UK, USA and Venezuela. Ad-hoc Networks : Fundamental Properties and Network Topologies
This book clearly demonstrates how the Medium Access Control protocols impose a limit on the level of interference in ad-hoc networks. It has been shown that interference is upper bounded, and a new accurate method for the estimation of interference power statistics in ad-hoc and sensor networks is introduced here. Furthermore, this volume shows how multi-hop traffic affects the capacity of the network. In multi-hop and ad-hoc networks there is a trade-off between the network size and the maximum input bit rate possible per node. Large ad-hoc or sensor networks, consisting of thousands of nodes, can only support low bit-rate applications.

Adhesion Molecules : Function and Inhibition
Inflammatory cell recruitment requires the concerted action of at least five major sets of adhesion molecules: integrins, immunoglobulin-like molecules, selectins, carbohydrate structures serving as selectin ligands, and certain ectoenzymes. Adequacy, Accountability, and the Future of Public Education Funding
This book is about public education reform and the future of pubHc education funding. Given the many articles, books, and conferences that have focused on the issue of public education reform, it is reasonable to ask whether the world needs still another volume on this subject. In my defense, I would argue that, although there is a large literature on public education reform, there is precious little that tries to sketch the big picture. Too often, both in research and in practice, it is easy to lose sight of the forest, for all the focus on the individual trees. While such detailed analysis is of critical value, that value derives both from its specificity and from its ability to fit into a larger, coherent whole.

Adaptive Scalarization Methods in Multiobjective Optimization
This book presents new adaptive solution methods for multiobjective optimization problems based on parameter dependent scalarizations. With the help of sensitivity results an adaptive parameter control is developed so that high-quality approximations of the efficient set are generated. These examinations are based on a general scalarization approach for arbitrary partial orderings defined by a closed pointed convex cone in the objective space. The application of the results to many other well-known scalarization methods is also presented. Background material of multiobjective optimization and scalarization approaches is concisely summarized at the beginning. The effectiveness of these new methods is demonstrated by test problems and a recent problem in intensity-modulated radiotherapy. The book concludes with a further application: a procedure for solving multiobjective bilevel optimization problems.

These methods use adaptive filter algorithms that are well known for linear systems identification. They are applicable for nonlinear systems that can be efficiently modeled by polynomials.After a brief introduction to nonlinear systems and to adaptive system identification, the author presents the discrete Volterra model approach. This is followed by an explanation of the Wiener model approach. Adaptive algorithms using both models are developed. The performance of the two methods are then compared to determine which model performs better for system identification applications.
