Quality and Reliability of Large-Eddy Simulations
Computational resources have developed to the level that, for the first time, it is becoming possible to apply large-eddy simulation (LES) to turbulent flow problems of realistic complexity. Many examples can be found in technology and in a variety of natural flows. This puts issues related to assessing, assuring, and predicting the quality of LES into the spotlight. Several LES studies have been published in the past, demonstrating a high level of accuracy with which turbulent flow predictions can be attained, without having to resort to the excessive requirements on computational resources imposed by direct numerical simulations. However, the setup and use of turbulent flow simulations requires a profound knowledge of fluid mechanics, numerical techniques, and the application under consideration.
Qualitative Research in European Migration Studies
Covers the main issues, challenges and techniques concerning the application of qualitative methodologies to the study of migration. It discusses theoretical, epistemological and empirical questions that must be considered before, during, and after undertaking qualitative research in migration studies. It also covers recent innovative developments and addresses the key issues and major challenges that qualitative migration research may face at different stages i.e. crafting the research questions, defining approaches, developing concepts and theoretical frameworks, mapping categories, selecting cases, dealing with concerns of self-reflection, collecting and processing empirical evidence through various techniques, including visual data, dealing with ethical issues, and developing policy-research dialogues. Each chapter discusses relative strengths and limitations of qualitative research. The chapters also identify the main drivers for qualitative research development in migration studies.

Qualità dei Dati : Concetti, Metodi e Tecniche = Data quality: Concepts, Methods and Techniques
Poor data quality can hinder or seriously damage the efficiency and effectiveness of organizations and businesses. The growing awareness of these repercussions has led to important public initiatives such as the promulgation of the "Data Quality Act" in the United States and the Directive 2003/98 of the European Parliament. The authors present a complete and systematic introduction to the wide range of problems related to data quality. The book starts with a detailed description of different dimensions of data quality, such as accuracy, completeness and consistency, and discusses its importance in relation to both different types of data, such as federated data, data present on the web and data with temporal dependencies, which to the different categories in which the data can be classified. The comprehensive description of techniques and methodologies from not only research in the area of data quality but also related areas, such as data mining, probability theory, statistical data analysis and machine learning, provides an excellent introduction to the state of the art. current art. The presentation is complemented by a short description and a critical comparison of practical tools and methodologies, which will help the reader to solve their quality problems.

Pyomo — Optimization Modeling in Python
Illustrates the different techniques useful for formulating models, this text beautifully elucidates the breadth of modeling capabilities that are supported by Pyomo and its handling of complex real-world applications. In the third edition, much of the material has been reorganized, new examples have been added, and a new chapter has been added describing how modelers can improve the performance of their models. The authors have also modified their recommended method for importing Pyomo. A big change in this edition is the emphasis of concrete models, which provide fewer restrictions on the specification and use of Pyomo models.

Public Interest and Private Enterprize : New Developments : Theoretical Results and Numerical Algorithms
This book deals with the effect of public and semi-public companies on economy. In traditional economic models, several private companies – interested in maximizing their profit – interact (e.g., compete) with each other. Such models help to avoid wild oscillation in production and prices (typical for uncontrolled competition), and to come up with a stable equilibrium solution. The problems become very complex if we take into account the presence of public and semi-public companies – that are interested in public good as well as in the profit. The book contains theoretical results and numerical techniques for computing resulting equilibria. As a case study, it considers the problem of selecting optimal tolls for the public roads – tolls that best balance the public good and the need to recover the cost of building the roads. It is recommended to specialists in economics as well as to students interested in learning the corresponding economic models.
Protocols for High Speed Networks ; 7th IFIP/IEEE International Workshop, PfHSN 2002, Berlin, Germany, April 22-24, 2002. Proceedings
This workshop on “Protocols for High-Speed Networks” is the seventh in a s- cessful series of international workshops, well known for their small and focused target audience, that provide a sound basis for intensive discussions of hi- qualityand timelyresearch work. PfHSN is a workshop providing an international forum that focuses on issues related to high-speed networking, such as protocols, implementation techniques, router design, network processors and the like. Although the topics have shifted during the last couple of years, for example, from parallel protocol implemen- tions to network processors, it could be observed that high speed remains a very important issue with respect to future networking.

Proteomics and Protein-Protein Interactions : Biology, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, and Drug Design
Techniques have been developed to rapidly create protein-protein interactions maps which in turn can be organized into pathways. Proteins serving as hubs in these networks seem to play crucial biological roles. Some of these proteins may provide new pharmalogical targets for an industry which is rapidly running out of the more classical means of finding new markets. Proteomics and Protein-Protein Interactions: Biology, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, and Drug Design aims at providing a comprehensive yet entertaining view of this rapidly evolving and exciting field. It starts with an overview of the importance of protein-protein interaction in biology (Chapter I). Next, the book dives into Proteomics issues (Chapter II) and describes successful applications of the Proteomics approach. Chapter III focuses on the very specific roles that protein modules play in determining and regulating protein-protein interactions while chapter IV addresses the chemical and energetic underpinnings of such macromolecular interactions. The data generated by a Proteomics approach is abundant and will only be made sense of using bio-informatics: chapter V is dedicated to giving a voice to some of the leaders in the bio-informatics field. Finally, in chapter VI, examples are provided to illustrate the great potential that protein-protein interfaces have as targets for pharmaceutical
Proteomics of Spermatogenesis
Recent developments of experimental techniques in cellular and molecular biology have made it possible to understand the molecular biology of male gametogenesis in greater detail. This book focuses on the description of specialized proteins, which are dominantly and/or specifically expressed in germ cells and localized in spermatozoa. There is an urgent need to classify proteins of spermatogenic cells with a view of their functions, and their applications in the regulation of fertility and in understanding infertility. The understanding of structural properties of male germ cell specific proteins can offer vulnerable points for targeted intervention in testis without generalized effects on stages of spermatogenesis. Besides targeted action in male germ cells, sperm specific proteins and polypeptides may also offer potential application in the development of a contraceptive vaccine.
Proteins at Solid-Liquid Interfaces
The adsorption of proteins at interfaces plays a role in many fields, suchas health, food, environment and analysis. Fundamental aspects are usefulwhen considering applications. We focus here especially on solid–liquidinterfaces and present a few fundamental studies regarding adsorption ki-netics and conformational changes, and examples of applications to sensorsand membranes. The first part is dedicated to fundamental studies performed using op-tical waveguide lightmode spectroscopy, as an example of a technique thathas the advantage of not requiring labelled proteins, but is limited to spe-cific supports. The second part includes different bench techniques that were devel-oped to improve the sensitivity of the characterisation of the orientationand structure of the proteins at interfaces.
Protein Movement Across Membranes
This book addresses the most recent advances in the transport of proteins across a variety of biological membranes. In addressing this topic, this volume includes several new twists not previously addressed in the literature. In the last few years, the study of protein translocation has been revolutionized by the availability of structural information on many of the components and complexes involved in the process. Unlike earlier books written on protein translocation, this volume considers these advances. In addition, several chapters discuss facets of protein translocation from a systems biology perspective, considered by many to be the next paradigm for biological study. Readers of this book will come away with a deeper understanding of the problems facing researchers of protein translocation and see how the most modern biological techniques and approaches are being recruited to answer those questions. The chapters are also written such that problems awaiting future investigation are clearly presented.
