Higher Education and Graduate Employment in Europe : Results from Graduates Surveys from Twelve Countries
The book indicates a noteworthy variety among economically advanced countries in the competences fostered by Higher Education and the emphasis placed either on laying a broad basis of knowledge or direct preparation for professional tasks. While universities in some countries are strongly involved in ensuring a rapid transition from study to employment, in other countries a long period after graduation is widespread for the search of a suitable career. Graduates from some countries appreciate their study experiences though they criticize a weak preparation for their subsequent assignments, while others less satisfied with higher education in their retrospective view note a satisfying preparation for the world of work. Study often turns out useful to lead to challenging tasks even though remuneration and status remain below expectations.

The book was written by sociologistswho described in some detail how they went about doing particularresearch studies. This essay follows that same approach in describing myown rationale and experiences in carrying out studies in higher education,Bill McKeachie provided a rich foundation in theevaluation and improvement of teaching that helped me identify worth-while research directions. My own goal has always been to be pragmaticand to hope my findings would make a difference — in other words I havehoped that my research results would somehow be of service to someonein our colleges and universities.
High-Dynamic-Range (HDR) Vision : Microelectronics, Image Processing, Computer Graphics
This first comprehensive account of high-dynamic-range (HDR) vision focusses on HDR real-time, high-speed digital video recording and also systematically presents HDR video transmission and display. High performance computing on vector systems 2007 ; Conference proceedings
The following book presents contributions from the 6th TERAFLOP Workshop which was hosted by Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan in Autumn 2006 and the 7th Workshop in Stuttgart which was held in spring 2007 in Stuttgart. Focus is layed on current applications and future requirements, as well as developments of next generation hardware architectures and installations. The papers presented in this book lay out the wide range of fields in which sustained performance can be achieved if engineering knowledge, numerical mathematics and computer science skills are brought together. With the advent of hybrid systems, the Teraflop workbench project will continue the support of leading edge computations for future applications.

Three of the 38 papers deal with computer science, 11 with computational fluid dynamics, two with bio-sciences, six with chemistry, nine with solid-state physics, one with geophysics, four with fundamental physics and two with astrophysics. At a workshop on high performance computing papers should not only have a high scientific quality of the subject addressed, e.g. CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), physics, chemistry, but should ecially emphasize the necessity to have access to a high performance computer in order to solve the problem. It should also contain information about the simulation techniques used and about the performance of the computer when using distinc algorithms.

The First Haifa Verification Conference was held at the IBM Haifa Research Lab and at the Haifa University in Israel from November 13 to16, 2005. The conference incorporated three different workshops that took place separately in previous years. The IBM Verification Workshop is now its sixth year, the IBM Software Testing Workshop is now in its fourth year, and the PADTAD Workshop on testing and debugging multi-threaded and parallel software was held for the third time. The Verification Conference was a three-day, single-track conference followed by a one-day tutorial on the testing and review of multi-threaded code. The conference presented a unique combination of fields that brought together the hardware and software testing communities. Merging the different communities under a single roof gave the conference a distinctive flavor and provided the participants with added benefits. While the applications in these separate fields are different, the techniques used are often very similar. By offering lectures in these disparate but related disciplines, the conference engendered an environment of collaboration and discovery.
