Computer Vision - ECCV 2002 ; 7th European Conference on Computer Vision, Copenhagen, Denmark, May 28-31, 2002. Proceedings. Part II
The privilege of organizing it was shared by three universities: The IT University of Copenhagen, the University of Copenhagen, and Lund University, with the conference venue in Copenhagen. This year’s conference attracted more papers than ever before, with around 600 submissions. Still, together with the conference board, we decided to keep the tradition of holding ECCV as a single track conference. Each paper was anonymously refereed by three different reviewers. For the ?nal selection, for the ?rst time for ECCV, a system with area chairs was used.

Computational intelligence in information assurance and security
The global economic infrastructure is becoming increasingly dependent upon information technology, with computer and communication technology being essential and vital components of Government facilities, power plant systems, medical infrastructures, financial centers and military installations to name a few. Finding effective ways to protect information systems, networks and sensitive data within the critical information infrastructure is challenging even with the most advanced technology and trained professionals. This volume provides the academic and industrial community with a medium for presenting original research and applications related to information assurance and security using computational intelligence techniques. The included chapters communicate current research on information assurance and security regarding both the theoretical and methodological aspects, as well as various applications in solving real world information security problems using computational intelligence.

Collective Actions in Europe : A Comparative, Economic and Transsystemic Analysis
This book offers an analytical presentation of how Europe has created its own version of collective actions. In the last three decades, Europe has seen a remarkable proliferation of collective action legislation, making class actions the most successful export product of the American legal scholarship. While its spread has been surrounded by distrust and suspiciousness, today more than half of the EU Member States have introduced collective actions for damages and from those who did, more than half chose, to some extent, the opt-out system. This book demonstrates why collective actions have been felt needed from the perspective of access to justice and effectiveness of law, the European debate and the deep layers of the European reaction and resistance, revealing how the Copernican turn of class actions questions the fundamentals of the European thinking about market and public interest. Using a transsystemic presentation of the European national models, it analyzes the way collective actions were accommodated with the European regulatory environment, the novel and peculiar regulatory questions they had to address and how and why they work differently on this side of the Atlantic.
Coding for Data and Computer Communications
In a unique, single volume, this highly versatile text/reference introduces readers to the importance of channel coding (error-correcting codes), secure coding (cryptography), and source coding (data compression). It is organized in three main parts and uses clear, nonmathematical explanations to develop the concepts, principles, and techniques in each area of coding. Requiring only a general familiarity with computer methods, the book deals with all aspects of coding and its relevance to fast, secure, and reliable data transmission and storage. Features & Benefits: Presents comprehensive coverage of areas of coding often found in separate books, and stresses data coding’s relevance in today’s world / Provides a wealth of examples and exercises (with solutions) to help readers easily grasp the material / Incorporates an extensive chapter on data hiding, a sparsely documented topic of increasing importance in the community / Includes an author-supplied website with supplementary material / Possesses a detailed bibliography and helpful glossary, index, and appendixes (including projects for self-study).

Managing Risk and Information Security : Protect to Enable
Examine the evolving enterprise security landscape and discover how to manage and survive risk. While based primarily on the author’s experience and insights at major companies where he has served as CISO and CSPO, the book also includes many examples from other well-known companies and provides guidance for a management-level audience. Managing Risk and Information Security provides thought leadership in the increasingly important area of enterprise information risk and security. It describes the changing risk environment and why a fresh approach to information security is needed. Because almost every aspect of an enterprise is now dependent on technology not only for internal operations but increasing as a part of product or service creation, the focus of IT security must shift from locking down assets to enabling the business while managing and surviving risk. This edition discusses business risk from a broader perspective, including privacy and regulatory considerations. It describes the increasing number of threats and vulnerabilities and offers strategies for developing solutions. These include discussions of how enterprises can take advantage of new and emerging technologies—such as social media and the huge proliferation of Internet-enabled devices—while minimizing risk.
Managing Information Systems Security and Privacy
The book deals with the management of information systems security and privacy, based on a model that covers technological, organizational and legal views. This is the basis for a focused and methodologically structured approach that presents "the big picture" of information systems security and privacy, while targeting managers and technical profiles. The book addresses principles in the background, regardless of a particular technology or organization. It enables a reader to suit these principles to an organization's needs and to implement them accordingly by using explicit procedures from the book. Additionally, the content is aligned with relevant standards and the latest trends.
Managing Critical Infrastructure Risks
At the beginning of each year, there is a deluge of top-10 lists on just about every subject you can imagine. A top-10 list of biggest news stories, best-selling books, most popular music and movies, richest companies, and best places to visit or live. It seems everyone has his or her own top-10 list, reflecting, perhaps, differences in regional, national, and cultural values. Companies and governments most often tend to focus their top-10 lists on economic priorities, or priorities related to national defense, security, public health, and new infrastructure. This year, 2007, was no exception. Yet, increasingly, we see governments, private organizations, and companies advocating a new type of prioritization. This framework needs to reach beyond the realms of economics, world trade, and corporate management to include the environment, stakeholders, public preferences, and social goals. Moreover, corporations and individuals are not only interested in generic 10-best lists; they want lists tailored to their values, goals, and current economic and social state. For example, the U. S.

Making Healthcare Safe : The Story of the Patient Safety Movement
This unique and engaging open access title provides a compelling and ground-breaking account of the patient safety movement in the United States, told from the perspective of one of its most prominent leaders, and arguably the movement’s founder, Lucian L. Leape, MD. Covering the growth of the field from the late 1980s to 2015, Dr. Leape details the developments, actors, organizations, research, and policy-making activities that marked the evolution and major advances of patient safety in this time span. In addition, and perhaps most importantly, this book not only comprehensively details how and why human and systems errors too often occur in the process of providing health care, it also promotes an in-depth understanding of the principles and practices of patient safety, including how they were influenced by today’s modern safety sciences and systems theory and design. Indeed, the book emphasizes how the growing awareness of systems-design thinking and the self-education and commitment to improving patient safety, by not only Dr. Leape but a wide range of other clinicians and health executives from both the private and public sectors, all converged to drive forward the patient safety movement in the US.
