Series Approximation Methods in Statistics
This book was originally compiled for a course I taught at the University of Rochester in the fall of 1991, and is intended to give advanced graduate students in statistics an introduction to Edgeworth and saddlepoint approximations, and related techniques.
Serial Murder and the Psychology of Violent Crimes
The phenomena of serial violent crime has long plagued human civilizations. Far from being a contemporary notion unique to Western societies, serial murderers and other offenders who repeatedly engage in violent crimes such as rape or arson are examples of extreme criminal aberrations that exist in cultures around the world. This book assembles the collective expertise of an international group of scholars and practitioners who seek to explain the psychiatric, psychological and criminological factors that may account for the perpetration of these abhorrent crimes. The topics covered in this text examine the motivational dynamics of offenders including such dimensions as their apparent behavioral normalcy, sensational interests, sadism, narcissism, commonalties, gender and age patterns. Beyond psychological and etiological factors the topics encompassed by this book also consider investigative techniques, procedures, limitations and failures encountered with these forms of crime.

These are the proceedings of the Workshop on Sequences, Subsequences, and Consequences that was held at the University of Southern California (USC), May 31 - June 2, 2007. There were three one-hour Keynote lectures, 16 invited talks of up to 45 minutes each, and 1 “contributed” paper. The theory of sequences from discrete symbol alphabets has found practical applications in many areas of coded communications and in cryptography, - cluding: signal patterns for use in radar and sonar; spectral spreading sequences for CDMA wireless telephony; key streams for direct sequence stream-cipher cryptography; and a variety of forward-error-correctingcodes.

Sequence Analysis and Modern C++ : The Creation of the SeqAn3 Bioinformatics Library
Every developer who previously worked with C++ will enjoy the in-depth chapter on important changes in the language from C++11 up to and including C++20. In contrast to many resources on Modern C++ that present new features only in small isolated examples, this book represents a more holistic approach: readers will understand the relevance of new features and how they interact in the context of a large software project and not just within a "toy example". Sepsis sévère et choc septique = Severe sepsis and septic shock
Severe sepsis and septic shock are common illnesses (several hundred thousand cases each year in Western Europe) and are associated with significant mortality rates, ranging from 30% to over 70%. Only a thorough understanding of the pathophysiology allows for the selection of appropriate therapeutic strategies to limit mortality, the primary objective of intensive care. This book is the most recent and comprehensive work on the subject. It presents the major elements of the pathophysiology in detail, yet in an accessible manner. It is the only book in French to incorporate the updated definitions of sepsis, severe sepsis, and septic shock (international consensus conference of 2001, published in 2003). This book also brings together data that are usually scattered on the resuscitation of severe sepsis and antibiotic treatment, a key tool for reducing mortality.
