The skincare hoax : How youre being tricked into buying lotions, potions wrinkle cream
We all want to have young and healthy skin, yet the beauty industry is so mixed in its messages that most consumers have no way to tell which skincare products are helpful and which claims are pure hype. In this book, skincare expert Dr. Fayne Frey explores the essential product categories that are entirely unnecessary, exposes how many well-known skincare ingredients have no scientific basis, and recommends truly effective skincare products and regimens that are easy and affordable

Self Healing Materials : An Alternative Approach to 20 Centuries of Materials Science
This book, the first in this new field of materials science, aims to present a coherent picture of the design principles and resulting properties of self healing materials over all material classes, and to offset them to the current design principles for structural materials with improved mechanical properties. Where appropriate a comparison to natural materials is made. As such it will be a landmark and a reference work in the coming years. The book consists of a number of invited contributions from leading experts in the field. While each chapter describes a separate approach or a different aspect of self healing materials, the common structure of each chapter creates a coherent and consistent picture of this emerging and challenging field. Hence the book is not only a valuable asset for professional materials scientists but it is also suitable as a text book for courses at MSc level.
SDL 2007 : Design for Dependable Systems ; 13th International SDL Forum, Paris, France, September 18-21, 2007, Proceedings
This volume contains the papers presented at the 13 SDL Forum, Paris, France entitled “Design for Dependable Systems” and respects the intent to have a balance between experience reports and research papers related to System Design Languages. The language that was at the heart of the first few SDL Forums was the ITU-T Specification and Description Language defined in Z.100, and the app- cation domain was almost entirely fixed-line telephone communication.
SDL 2005 : Model Driven ; 12th International SDL Forum, Grimstad, Norway, June 20-23, 2005, Proceedings
This paradigm is based on the following important principles of distributed - plications: Communication: large systems tend to be described using smaller parts that communicate with each other; State: the systems are described on the basis of an explicit notion of state; State change: the behavior of the system is described in terms of (local) changes of the state. The original language is not the only representative for this kind of paradigm, so the scope of the SDL Forum was extended quite soon after the ?rst few events to also include other ITU standardized languages of the same family, such as MSC, ASN.1 and TTCN. This led to the current scope of System Design Languages covering all stages of the development process including in particular SDL, MSC, UML, ASN.1, eODL, TTCN, and URN. The focus is clearly on the advantages to users, and how to get from these languages the same advantage given by the ITU Specification and Description Language: code generation from high-level speci?cations.
SDL 2001 : Meeting UML ; 10th International SDL Forum Copenhagen, Denmark, June 27-29, 2001. Proceedings
This volume contains the papers presented at the Tenth SDL Forum, Cop- hagen. SDL is the Speci?cation and Description Language ?rst standardized by the world telecommunications body, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), more than 20 years ago in 1976. While the original language and domain of application has evolved signi?cantly, the foundations of SDL as a graphical, state-transition and process-communication language for real-time systems have remained. Today SDL has also grown to be one notation in the set of uni?ed modelling languages recommended by the ITU (ASN.1, MSC, SDL, ODL, and TTCN) that can be used in methodology taking engineering of systems from requirements capture through to testing and operation.
Protocols for Multislice CT
This book provides structured up-to-date information on all routine protocols used for multislice (multidetector row) CT. The volume contains a detailed technical section and covers the prevailing investigations of the brain, neck, lungs and chest, abdomen with parenchymal organs and gastrointestinal tract, the musculoskeletal system and CTA as well as dedicated protocols for the heart. Separate chapters address the how-to of CT-guided interventions such as punctures, drainages, and therapeutic approaches. Each protocol is displayed en bloc, enabling rapid appreciation of indications and the necessary scanner settings.
MSCs and Innovative Biomaterials in Dentistry
Presents the modern concepts of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and biomaterials as they pertain to the dental field. The book is organized around three main topics: MSCs biology, advanced biomaterials, and clinical applications. The chapters present basic information on stem cell biology and physiology, modern biomaterials that improve bone tissue regeneration, the biomatrices like platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) used to functionalize the biomaterials surface, the strategic and safe intraoral seats of harvesting, the new sources for MSCs, as well as the future perspectives and new challenges in these exciting fields.
MSC Maximal Stress Cooperation
In 1996 my book ‘The Nature of Cultures’ appeared in Vi- na and New York. It describes cultures as systems which are controlled by MSC and decorum. While MSC is a neologism meaning ‘maximal stress cooperation’ decorum is a very old term. It is as old as Western culture itself, and is furthermore, the translation of the even older Greek word ‘prepon’. Decorum and prepon mean ‘to be suitable, to be fitting’. It is all about the fitting of cultural medial contents to elementary cultural behavioural types and behavioural phases. These behavioural units are subject to a type of ranking system in which that which is essential is sorted from that which less essential. - corum then means – the representations of the media must ‘fit’ the ranking of the cultural behaviour. It is MSC which assumes the top position in this ranking. In 1996 and the two previous years when I was working on my book ‘The Nature of Cultures’ less than 5 years had passed since the Iron Curtain had been lifted. Many believed at that time that with ending of the Cold War, which was more or less de facto peace anyway, that a new and better age of peace was dawning.
Medical product regulatory affairs : pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, medical devices
Based on a module prepared by the authors for an MSc course offered by the University of Limerick, Ireland, Medical Product Regulatory Affairs is a comprehensive and practical guide on how pharmaceutical and medical devices are regulated within the major global markets. The Second Edition builds on the success of the first with an even wider scope and full coverage of new EU regulations on the safe use of medical devices. Following a look at drug development, complete sections are devoted to national and EU regulatory issues, manufacturing license application and retention, and regulation in the USA. Other topics dealt with include CDER, CBER and marketing and manufacturing licenses, the ICH process and Good Laboratory/Clinical/ Manufacturing Practices.
Mechatronics : Dynamics of Electromechanical and Piezoelectric Systems
Deals with Lagrange equations for electromechanical systems, including piezoelectric transducers and selected applications. Intended for the research community and graduate students at the MSc and PhD level, this book is an extension to piezoelectric systems of the work, ""Dynamics of Mechanical and Electromechanical Systems"", published in 1968.
Intersections de deux quadriques et pinceaux de courbes de genre 1 = Intersections of two quadrics and pencils of curves of genus 1
This research monograph focuses on the arithmetic, over number fields, of surfaces fibred into curves of genus 1 over the projective line, and of intersections of two quadrics in projective space. The first half contains a complete account of the technique initiated by Swinnerton-Dyer in 1993 for studying rational points on pencils of curves of genus 1, while incorporating and generalising most of its subsequent refinements. The second half, which builds upon the first, is devoted to quartic del Pezzo surfaces and higher-dimensional intersections of two quadrics.
Intelligent Life in the Universe : Principles and Requirements Behind Its Emergence
This book addresses the possible origins, development and fate of intelligent life in the universe. The author presents a wide-ranging analysis of the type of knowldege that can be inferred about extraterrestial intelligent societies from our own biological, cultural and scientific evolution, and from the likely future of mankind. Providing extensive background information from astronomy, geology, chemistry and biology, the book will appeal to both the scientist and the general reader.
